Sci-Fi Month 2018 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1) by Becky Chambers + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Welcome to Sci-Fi Month 2018!  Sci-Fi Month is a month long celebration of all things sci-fi and it's hosted by Imyril @ One More and Lisa @ Dear Geek Place (Image credit: Photo by Greg Rakozy on Unsplash, Quote from The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers).

This week I'm spotlighting one of my current Sci-Fi Month reads and one of my Read Harder Challenge books, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (Wayfarers #1) by Becky Chambers which the above quote is from.  I'm glad to be finally getting into this and I'm particularly enjoying it so far.

Beginning:

As she woke up in the pod, she remembered three things.  First, she was traveling through open space.  Second, she was about to start a new job, one she could not screw up.  Third, she had bribed a government official into giving her a new identity file.  None of this information was new, but it wasn't pleasant to wake up to.

56:

"Well, if this band hates the establishment that much then I doubt they'll care about me making up my own words."

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Book Written In The 2000s

Favorite - Through Wolf's Eyes (Firekeeper Saga #1) by Jane Lindskold - I know I don't mention it enough, but this epic fantasy series is one of my all time favorites!

Least Favorite - Gossip Girl (Gossip Girl #1) by Cecily von Ziegesar - I have no clue why I randomly decided to take this book home with me from the library.  I made it through the first couple of chapters before I realized I was down to my last brain cell and decided to give up the ghost.

What are you reading this weekend?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month or Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  4. I have been seeing this book around and have become curious about it. I want to lower my TBR mountain before I add to it though. This week I am featuring Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch - an urban fantasy from my review stack. Happy reading!

  5. Hahahahaha oh Gossip Girl... I started watching the TV series (I'm almost through the first season) and there are just so many cringing things. I love the look back at the 2000s, though, and it's interesting to see just how far we've come as a society. And the outfits! And being able to yell at the characters because they're awful! Great show to watch and hate at the same time :) Thanks for linking up, Lauren!

  7. I had the Lindskold books in my library but never knew how good they were. Wish I'd known. Sigh. My quotes are from HEY, KIDDO a graphic memoir.

  8. I read The Long Way because someone recommended it for a writing group. I liked it a lot.

  9. Glad you're enjoying it. From the cover, I'm guessing it's more the comedic side of sci-fi?

  10. I'm kind of picky about my sci-fi so I'm on the fence about this one. See what book I'm featuring this week at Girl Who Reads
