Like last week, I'm featuring some of my favorite challenge reads. This time I'm featuring Favorite Books I've Read For Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge. I've been taking part in this year long challenge since 2017, so I'm picking my favorite book from each challenge year from 2017-2023, along with 3 honorable mentions to round out my list of ten books. I just realized I haven't mentioned this around here, but over on Twitter I took recommendations at the end of last year for the 12 Books 12 Friends Challenge 2024. Since the beginning of the year, I've completed 5 of the 12 books so far and I thought I would share my thoughts on the books I've read all based on recommendations. Some of these weren't on my radar at all if not for the recommendations, so thanks very much for everyone who made recs to me! Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the 5 books I've read for this challenge so far:

<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;"> <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋ <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋

I really liked how For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing started out and it's a solid read throughout but I think I would have preferred it if Teddy were the only perspective character in the long run. Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's topic is Weird or Funny Things I’ve Googled Thanks to a Book, but I decided to do something completely different instead. I guess, I blanked on the exciting things I've Googled thanks to read. The majority of it is probably defining words, I suppose. Anyway, I thought I'd feature 5 favorites from each my 2022 and 2023 Popsugar Reading Challenge (although I've been doing it since 2020). I'm currently working on the 2024 challenge and so far I've tackled some pretty great books for it.

2022

<a href="https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1432627439l/444332.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; Today I'm sharing my second update for my February progress on the year long Beat The Backlist 2024 reading challenge, hosted by Austine Decker. You can see my original tbr here. In February, I completed 12 books for a total of 15 books completed out of 52 books on my tbr. Today, I'm sharing my wrap up and mini reviews for the For the Culture Readathon: Fave Characters Edition which ran the entire month of February! You can check out the Twitter page for the challenge here and it was created by @TyBooks. You can also visit the challenge on The StoryGraph here (I've recently decided I'm going to get back into The StoryGraph again and you can visit my profile here). Of the 12 prompts, I completed 7 of them - one of them utilized one of the bonus group books. You can use one book for as many prompts as you like, and also applied one of the bonus group books. If you would like to check out my original tbr you can see it here. Without further ado, keep reading to see what books I'm planning to read for this challenge:
1. This fantasy is Jamaican inspired and the atmosphere and world-building are outstanding, the characters are feel like they could walk right off the page (especially Faron), and the magic system is pretty cool. I hope everyone's been doing well. I've now completed four tasks for Book Riot's 20243 Read Harder Challenge. The tasks I completed this month required me to read a middle grade book with an LGBTQIA main character and to read a romance with neurodivergent characters. <span style="font-family: "times new roman";">I selected Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee and Solitaire (Solitaire #1) by Alice Oseman respectively. Read on to see my mini reviews and my plans for next month:

<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;"> <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋ <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋ ❋

I'm so glad I took a chance on Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee. I don't say this often, but this book was just cute as heck. Plus, it had some choice Shakespearean insults - and even reference for the Shakespearean plays where you can find those lines. If you're looking for a clever MG contemporary LGBT+ story and are a fan of theater and Shakespeare, you can't miss this.

My review is also on Goodreads.

<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋<span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;"> <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋ <span face="montserrat, "helvetica neue", helvetica, arial, sans-serif" style="color: purple; font-size: 35px;">❋

Solitaire (Solitaire #1) by Alice Oseman is a solid YA contemporary focusing on mental health and with a bit of a mystery. I know this is Oseman's first book, where Nick and Charlie first appear and that Heartstopper is an expansion of the world created here. Honestly, though, I can definitely say I prefer Tori as a minor/ secondary character in Heartstopper rather than as a lead character. Overall, the novel a little too long and Tori grated on my nerves more often than not, even if I know she's dealing with mental health issues. Also, it would have been good if Tori and Charlie's parents seemed to care what their kids were going through. That said Michael Holden totally makes the book. Plus, it's always good to see Nick and Charlie - and I'm very glad I first met them in Heartstopper instead of this novel. Overall, I'm glad I listened to this on audiobook because the narrator, Jayne Entwistle, did a fantastic job.

My review is also on Goodreads.

<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration-color: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">

<p style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration-color: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px;">Next Up For March:

Read a history book by a BIPOC author.

My choice: Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson - I've been meaning to pick this out since it came out, but I kept putting it off but now I'm giving myself a real excuse to finally read this.

Read a YA nonfiction book.

My choice: The Bones of Birka: Unraveling the Mystery of a Female Viking Warrior by C.M. Today, I'm featuring Neon Odin - Allfather [Full Album] from Years of Silence which includes 8 tracks. This just happened to be recommended to me on YouTube and I really like the sound of their brand of synthwave with this album. Give it a listen below:

Today I'm sharing my TBR for the Marvelathon: Villains vs Villains which is hosted by Lisa Does Life and lasts for the entire month of March. I took part in this last year and really enjoyed it. It features two teams: Villains and Heroes. I love all of the characters featured, but I decided on Team Heroes once I spotted Captain America and Doctor Strange on the roster. Anyway, the rules are pretty simple: 1.Director Fury prompt and team color prompts can only be used once, 2. Character prompts can be used as many times as you like but only 3 per book max, 3. Can use any prompts together, and 4. Play fair. Without further ado, let's get to what I hope to read:

Director Fury - Book With Disability Rep

<a href="https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1641061885i/51238708.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; Today I'm sharing my plans for the March 2024 round of the Trope-ical Readathon which is hosted by @jenjenreviews and @bookrob13. It will run the entire month of March and I'm joining Team Fantasy this time around.

As usual, there are fifteen total challenges to complete - two team challenges and thirteen common challenges (you either read a book that fits the given trope or one that fits the alternate prompt). Each team also has two choices (a newer or an older book) for your Team Book read as well. For each challenge you complete, team book you read, and each page you read, you earn points for your team, You can also follow the official Trope-ical Readathon on Twitter and with the hashtag #TropeicalReadathon. Today, I'm featuring a couple of my favorites from Gregorian. I just stumbled on these guys on YouTube and I love it and the two songs I'm featuring by them will give you a great idea of their style. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!
