Medieval-A-Thon 2021 - Announcement & TBR

I've seen Medieval-A-Thon around the blogosphere the for awhile now and I've finally decided to jump in.  I just couldn't resist any longer!  Anyway, it's hosted by Holly Hearts Books and it runs for a full month from January 10th (today!) through February 10th.

The goal is to improve your position in Medieval society from peasant to royal and this year there are prompts based around Medieval-themed professions, including Baker, Blacksmith, Tailor/ Seamstress, Bard, and Clergy.  Me, I'm going to become a Legendary Bard after two of my favorite onscreen bards - Jaskier from The Witcher and Geoffrey Chaucer from A Knight's Tale.  Without further ado, keep reading to check out my tbr:

Level 1: Tavern Poet - Read a book with a great first line

My choice: Seven for a Secret (Timothy Wilde #2) by Lyndsay Faye - I haven't read the first book in this series, but this sounds like a fascinating historical mystery.  I just happened to find this at a library book sale ages ago and I've been meaning to get to it, and this seems like a perfect chance to finally get to it.

Level 2: Traveling Troubadour - A book with a travel element

My choice - Raising Steam (Discworld #40) by Terry Pratchett - Moist von Lipwig is one of my favorite Discworld characters and this time around he's been put in charge of a brand new invention - the train.

Level 3: House Musician - A book title that's a characters name

My choice: Anno Dracula (Anno Dracula #1) by Kim Newman - I'm also going to be reading this one for the Popsugar Reading Challenge as well.

Level 4: Bard College Student - A book over 400 pages

My choice: Dead Simple (Roy Grace #1) by Peter James - I own the first few books in this series and it sounds like it could be an addicting mystery thriller series.  Plus, I heard it's going to be adapted into a tv series called Grace starring John Simm, so I figure I'll try to get to it before it's due to hit the airwaves sometime this year.

Level 5: Legendary Bard - A book with multiple authors

My choice: Carniepunk by Rachel Caine - This is an urban fantasy anthology featuring some of my favorite authors that revolves around carnivals.  I'm really looking forward to the stories from Rachel Caine, Rob Thurman, Delilah S. Dawson, Kevin Hearne, Jennifer Estep, and Seanan McGuire.

Are you taking part in this readathon?  What Medieval profession are you aiming for?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!
