Wyrd & Wonder 2025 - Week 4 Update

Happy Saturday and welcome to my fourth and final weekly update of Wyrd & Wonder! Wyrd & Wonder 2025 is a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story (artwork by Yuri Arcurs Photography). What I've Watched Since:

I finally finished up The Wheel of Time, Season 1 (2021) this week and by the end of the season I realized I was quite invested in all of the main characters and their journeys.  My favorite characters were Moraine (Rosamund Pike is amazing in this role), Lan, and Rand.  I was surprised to find I was actually choked up by the end of episode eight.  I'm going to have to start in on season two soon.  I heard the that the series was just cancelled after season three so I hope it wraps up decently.  At least I have two more season ahead of me to enjoy.

The Sword in the Stone (1963) has been on my radar for a long time and I've seen a couple of clips before now that were good.  I honestly thought this was going to feature Excalibur aka The Sword in the Stone a little more than it being an afterthought that barely appears for more than two out of a 79 minute runtime.  One thing I really loved about this was the color palette and the matte paintings for the landscapes.  One thing I didn't get at all was why three separate actors play Wart/ Arthur over the movie?  And they all sound quite different from each other??  Another one that left me scratching my head was why have Wart/ Arthur speak with an American accent when every one else is British?

A Murder of Mages (The Maradine Constabulary #1) by Marshall Ryan Maresca is my first novel by this author, but now I know that I'll be back for more.  I have a feeling the overarching series could grow to become a favorite.  As much as I enjoyed the characters, I particularly liked getting to know more about Maradaine itself.  I liked just how much the story is a mystery/ police procedural as much as it is a fantasy.  I have a copy of The Holver Alley Crew (The Streets of Maradaine #1) on my shelf, and I'm looking forward to giving it a try and hopefully soon.
