Happy Monday everyone! Today I'm sharing my fifth update for my May progress on the year long Beat The Backlist 2025 reading challenge, hosted by Austine Decker. You can see my original tbr here. In May, I completed 2 books for a total of 20 read so far out of 24 total books on my tbr. Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the book I read in May:

Clytemmestra by Costanza Casati is a pretty fantastic debut. If you're at all interested in Greek mythology retellings, you'll have to check this out. There are a lot of names and characters in this to keep track of (some of which were familiar and some not so much), but this author does a good job at fleshing them out and particularly our title character. I can definitely say I'm looking forward to more from this author in the future.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow is one of those books where I liked the atmosphere and tone more than anything else about it. The real historical details and figures were interesting to see. I was surprised by how graphic it got at times. I wasn't expecting that at all. Anyway, I got my copy from Goodwill and there were a couple of sheets of paper tucked inside which looked like the previous owners 12 step instructions on how to build a house on one sheet and breaking those steps down a bit further into six more steps (Roman numerals this time instead of Arabic). Also, I looked up the author a bit and found out he attended Kenyon College which might as well be in my backyard. I had no idea, so I thought that was pretty interesting.

Are you participating in this challenge? Have you read these books? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
How interesting that you found papers in Ragtime! I've seen the movie but never read the book.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what this poor person went through when they realized they lost their notes!
