Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge 2025 - August Update: The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 13 & Crownchasers

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope everyone's been doing well this month.  I've now completed 16 total tasks for Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge.  I completed two tasks in August which required me to read a comic in translation and a genre-blending book and I selected The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 13 (The Way of the Househusband #13) by Kosuke Oono (I was planning on reading Days of Sand by Aimee de Jongh, but when I realized my library hold wouldn't be showing up anytime at all this month I decided to switch to the newest installment of a favorite manga series that did arrive in my library holds) and Crownchasers (Crownchasers #1) by Rebecca Coffindaffer,  Read on to see my mini review and my plans for next month:

 ❋
I love this series and The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 13 (The Way of the Househusband #13) by Kosuke Oono was another great installment. It didn't quite hook me right as much from the get go, but it was just fun to see the characters again. It's at it's best when it's silly and it really gets there as it goes along. My favorite sections: Akuta's carved wooden chair versus Tatsu's carved wooden animals, Tatsu's choice in reading material with the memoir The Woman Named Kuriyama is exactly his speed, and car camping with his father-in-law (and another camper) leading to them watching a Policure movie. These were priceless and I can't wait to read the next volume.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋  ❋

Crownchasers (Crownchasers #1) by Rebecca Coffindaffer was easily one of my favorite reads of 2025.  Why did I sit on this for nearly five long years because I absolutely loved this!  It was exactly the combination of fantasy and sci-fi that I was looking for.  The sense of adventure, the world-building, and the cast of characters really reeled me right in.  I honestly don't understand why this isn't more well know.  I can't wait to read book 2 and any other book this author cares to write in the future.  If you're a fan of Amie Kaufman, I have a feeling you'd like this series opener from Rebecca Coffindaffer.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Next Up For September:

Read a banned book and complete a task on Book Riot’s How to Fight Book Bans guides.

My choice: Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden - I work at a library so I'll be bringing attention to banned books during October's Banned Books Week.

Read the first book in a completed young adult or middle grade duology.

My choice: Even the Darkest Stars (Even the Darkest Stars #1) by Heather Fawcett - I absolutely loved this author's Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries and I'm looking forward to trying more from her with this YA fantasy.

Are you taking part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
