The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel is an excellent and ambitious debut novel that explores many tough topics via magical realism. This past June, July, and August I gladly took part in The Comment Challenge, hosted by Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense and Lonna @ FLYLēF .  Each month the participants were paired up with another blogger and we would get to know them by visiting and commenting on their blog.  Basically, it was a fantastic way to reach out to other bloggers (that you may or may not already be familiar with) and form new connections by leaving comments on one another's blogs, or by chatting on Twitter .  It's a great way to build new friendships in the blogosphere -  I hope to keep in contact with my partners in the months ahead.  This summer I was paired up with  Ellen and Sierra @ Quest Reviews  in June,  Mari @ Story and Somnomancy  in July, and Anne @ Head Full of Books  in August.  Thanks for everything, guys! Arin, a slave that she purchased at auction for a high price, appears to be a kindred spirit - his very eyes defy his new lot in life - and Kestrel soon realizes that the price she paid for him is much higher than she would have expected. I've been told over and over that I need to read this novel and I'm glad I finally tried it on audiobook. I really enjoyed getting to know all of the characters, particularly Arin. I was pleased to see how both Kestrel and Arin challenge expectations that I had as a reader and within their own world. ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ Leine Basso, a former assassin, has been hired by a wealthy couple to find their missing daughter and her boyfriend who were last seen partying in Tijuana. The police suspect that they were victims of a car jacking, but when Leine locates their missing car with the boyfriend's mutilated body inside and then a cartel threatens her she knows she must be close. If Elise, the missing daughter, isn't already dead, she's running out of time. I was so lucky to win a signed copy of this novel from Sherry @ Fundinmental . From the description and snippets on her blog, I was quickly sold and now that I've finished it I can easily say that I wasn't disappointed. The main character, Leine Basso, is one tough leading lady right from the very beginning. She's smart and quite brave, if a little reckless. Code Name Verity  by Elizabeth Wein, narrated by Morven Christie and Lucy Gaskell - I also got this one through YA SYNC.  It has a beautiful production - be sure to have a tissues with you!
