Happy Tuesday! Today, I'm sharing my January update for my 12 Challenge 2025. This month I managed to complete 3 of the 12 books recommended to me. Keep reading to see my thoughts on what I've read for this challenge in January:

A Guest in the House by Emily Carroll is dripping with a creepy and mysterious atmosphere. The art is gorgeous, and I really appreciate the use of color. I do wish the ending was a little less open though. I definitely need to read more from this author in the future.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

The Great Fortune (Balkan Trilogy #1) by Olivia Manning was first put on my radar for my 12 Challenge 2025. I'm glad it was because I can see why it is now considered a classic. I haven't read many books set in Romania and I liked all of the details that made it feel real. I haven't decided whether or not I'll continue the series. I highly recommend it listening to audiobook production since Emilia Fox is a great narrator.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward is one of those books that I think I liked the idea of more than I liked the final product. The narration by Christopher Ragland and Katherine Fenton was great, but I wish I could follow the story itself a little more without feeling like I have no clue what's going on. That said that also somewhat helps the story keep up the sense of horror and the mystery element as well.
My review is on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
Have you read any of these books? Are you taking part in this challenge? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
Looking Glass Sound is one of my least favorite books by Ward. And I need that Emily Carroll book!
ReplyDeleteWard has been hit or miss with me. The Carroll book is great, but all I've read have been. 🙂
