The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Back to the Future (Back to the Future #1) by George Gipe

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, currently hosted by Anne @ My Head Is Full of Books, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my Magical Readathon: Orilium - Autumn Equinox 2025 books, Back to the Future (Back to the Future #1) by George Gipe.  Okay, Back to the Future is one of my all time favorite movies and I just happened to find a copy of the novelization at an antique shop last week.  I can't wait to try this.  I've heard it's based on an earlier version of the screenplay, so I guess I'll find out how different it is. By the way, the opening is a class Marty is in and they're watching a video about the destructive force of atomic power! It's in italics since it's supposed to be the narration in the video.

Beginning:

Here, the living room of a peaceful house in the suburbs, a typical family sits quietly. Dad reads the evening paper, unaware that disaster is about to strike. Mom cleans the dinner dishes, oblivious to the fact that in a few seconds their world will be reduced to a whirlwind of splinters and atomized debris.

56:

"Plutonium? You mean this sucker's nuclear?"

Have you read this book?  Are you participating in this challenge?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  1. It would be fun to read the book that's based on the original screenplay.

  2. I love that opening quote. So clever especially since we all know how it works out.
