Happy Thursday everyone! Welcome back to Books from the Backlog, the weekly linkup I'm taking part of which is hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books. This is a great way to put a spotlight on books that I've had sitting on my shelf for awhile. I don't know when I'll get to my weekly featured book, but I hope to some time hopefully soon. By the way, all this month I'm featuring fantasy books in honor of Wyrd & Wonder 2026 (a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story with artwork by Varvara Gorbash).
This Week's Neglected Book:
Published: June 28, 2013
These cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality. Jess' life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood. But now her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming together: her mother gone—dead under mysterious circumstances; her life uprooted to stay with estranged relatives she’s never met; and there’s something odd about some of the people she’s been meeting at school:
They’re dead.
Aided by Tia, her neurotic roommate, and Dr. David Pierce, a ghost-hunting professor, Jess must unravel the mystery behind her hauntings. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger shadows her every move. An ancient secret, long-buried, is about to claw its way to the surface, and nothing can prepare Jess for one terrifying truth...
...her encounters with the world of the dead are only just beginning.
Why Did I Add It?
I wasn't at all familiar with this author before I spotted this series opener at Goodwill, but the description really caught my eye. Plus, for a book that's over a decade old now, it looks like it's in just about perfect condition.
Have you read this or would you read it? Would you recommend it to me? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
