Summer of Horror 2026 - Sunday Funday: June Week 1 Update

summer of horror 2026 logo

Happy Sunday Funday and welcome to my fourth and final weekly update for Summer of Horror 2026, a celebration of all things horror running from June through August and hosted by Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy.  I'm glad I've decided to take part in this - it's going to be a good summer!  Keep reading to see what I've gotten up to since the beginning of this challenge.

My Summer of Horror This Week:

What I've Watched This Week:

❋
If Wishes Could Kill (Limited Series) - Netflix - This started off a bit shaky but by the end I became more invested than I was expecting.

❋.5
Episode 1: That was an intense ending of this episode. Dang, I liked Hyeong-wook too! Se-ah and Geon-woo seem like good kids and kind of cute together. Naturally, I'm already worried for them.

My review is also on Serialized.

❋.5
Episode 2: Well, that was upsetting (especially the eye stuff)! I hope they're able to figure this out before it's too late. Is this going to become a Ring situation where they're going to have to make a wish to save all of their friends and then pass it onto someone else altogether?

My review is also on Serialized.

❋ .5
Episode 3: This is easily the best and most engaging episode of the series so far. It's very stressful in a good way. Ha-joon's sister, Ha-young is amazing and his brother-in-law, Bang-wool's, pretty cool too. My least favorite character of the series so far is Na-ri. I hope she'll surprise me and change.

My review is also on Serialized.

Episode 4: I knew I had a good reason to dislike Na-ri! The investigation in this episode really worked for me. Bang-wool is really stealing the show. He, and Ha-young, better come out of this alright.

My review is also on Serialized.

Episode 5: At this point, I would be happy if Na-ri died brutally at any time in this limited series. Also, this episode reinforces my belief that Bang-wool is one of the best characters.

My review is also on Serialized.

.5
Episode 6: Episode 6 is the best one so far. It's a flashback that fills in the gaps with a bunch of excellent performances. I hate to say it but those kids, especially the boy, had it coming to them one way or another.

My review is also on Serialized.

Episode 7: Bang-wool better survive, and Na-ri better not!

My review is also on Serialized.

Episode 8: I was so worried about Bang-wool and Ha-young/ Haetsal, so thank you! The ending is left fairly open so if this would happen to return for more, I hope it follows their characters. They are the real MVPs.

My review is also on Serialized.

❋.5
Creepshow 2 - I really enjoyed the first movie in this series, but this sequel just didn't have what the original did.  The monster oil slick and the Venus fly trap bits were my favorite elements in this one.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

What I Read This Week:

The No-End House book cover

I was really looking forward to The No-End House by Jeremey Bates, but this ended up being off-putting and just not good at all. I liked the idea of it and the creepypasta that inspired it, but you know what did the story about a million times better? The second season of the outstanding anthology tv series called Channel Zero. Actually, I might have to do a rewatch of it to get this one out of my head.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

What I'm Reading Now:

Into the Drowning Deep (Rolling in the Deep #1) by Mira Grant - I'm about halfway through the audiobook now and I'm really invested so far.  Christine Larkin is doing such a great job as the narrator.

Blood Bank (Vicki Nelson #6) by Tanya Huff - I really like that this has a brief description and timeline for each of the short stories in this collection.  Plus, it's really cool one of them is the screenplay for the season 1 episode 9 ("Stone Cold") of the tv series adaptation, Blood Ties
