My Summer of Horror This Week:
What I've Watched This Week:
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Parasyte: The Grey - Since last time, I finished the series by watching episodes 2-6. The series definitely improved as it went along. I've never read or seen the original manga or anime, but I enjoyed this spinoff series quite a bit. Jeon So-nee did a great job of portraying both Su-in and Heidi. I especially appreciated the friendship between Su-in and Kang-woo. The series made some surprisingly big moves during its run and i honestly I wouldn't mind seeing another spinoff series set in Ohio given it's one of the other parasite hotspot areas. I wonder how that kind of story would look if set in my home state?

Episode 2: This episode was a good step up. I'm rooting for both Kang-woo and Su-in. I think they'll make a great team. I really like the look of the action scenes, especially that motorcycle and foot chase with Kang-woo. Also, while watching this episode it hit me where I've seen the actress who plays Su-in - she's Haetsal / Kang Ha-young in If Wishes Could Kill! Finally, I don't trust The Grey at all.

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 3: That grocery store intro scene was excellent and it didn't connect until the end of it that that's the woman who is the current head of The Grey and her husband who's the bound and helmeted watchdog. I hope Su-in (and Ms. Heidi if we're calling her parasite that), Kang-woo, and Mr. Kim Chul-min team up.

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 4: I really liked the moments between Heidi and Su-in as they communicated together. Absolutely floored by that ending though - I wasn't expecting that at all! I'm actually upset!

Episode 5: Dang! Not him too!

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 6: Aw, I was getting choked up at Heidi's letter to Su-in. Also, I appreciate the friendship between Su-in and Kang-woo. I'm sure that the kitty at the store has never done a single thing wrong in its life. Finally, I totally didn't get the significance of the Japanese character cameo/ introduction at the end since I haven't read the original manga or watched the anime either, but I did look up the character and that is a fun thing to include that character knowing the tiny I know about him now. Maybe I should watch the anime and read the manga now.

❋ ❋ ❋.5
NOS4A2 (Season 1) - Netflix - I really enjoyed Joe Hill's book and I've watched the first few episodes. I'm not quite sold, but it's getting better as it's going.
❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 1: Solid so far, but not a favorite. I really enjoyed the book that this is based on, so we'll see how this goes.

❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 2: I had this playing while doing some other stuff. It's fine, but I'm not totally engrossed. Vic is the most interesting character so far. Still surprised to see Sally Jackson here!

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 3: So far this is the best episode so far and things are really starting to come together. Vic is starting to come to terms with what is happening! Zachary Quinto can be very creepy, but why murder that poor kitty!

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 4: Of all of the characters, Maggie who is played by Jahkara Smith is probably my favorite so far. I hope things turn out all right for Vic even if she is being put through the wringer so far. Also, Bing is just about the worst.

What I Read This Week:
❋ ❋ ❋
The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a historical horror fantasy novel that I really been looking forward to. While I enjoyed it well enough, I can say that I wish I liked it more than I did. It wasn't bad at all, but it's just my least favorite from this author. I think I mainly could have done with less jumping around being times and characters.

The October Film Haunt by Michael Wehunt sounded really cool, but the writing style just wasn't for me at all. I liked the idea of this one, but could only make it through the 1st three chapters.

What I'm Reading Now:
Smoke and Shadows (Smoke Trilogy #1) Tanya Huff - I jumped this past week and have only read a bit of this so far. I'm really liking it so far though!
Desert Creatures by Kay Chronister - Sounds like a horrific and dystopian take on Las Vegas, or at least the journey to get there is! I'll be reading this for my r/Fantasy 2026 Book Bingo Challenge. I'm only about 10% in to this one so far.
Are you participating in this challenge? Have you read any of these books or watched these movies and shows? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
