Summer of Horror 2026 - Sunday Funday: June Week 4 Update

summer of horror 2026 logo

Happy Sunday Funday and welcome to my fourth weekly update for Summer of Horror 2026, a celebration of all things horror running from June through August and hosted by Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy. I made some more progress on my tbr and watchlist! I can't believe it's almost July! Keep reading to see what I've gotten up to since last week.

My Summer of Horror This Week:

What I've Watched This Week:

❋.5
Sometime Aunt Martha Does Dreadful Things - I don't have much to say except that I'm honestly not quite sure what to make of this.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

❋ ❋.5
Innocent Blood - This crime thriller vampire horror comedy romance does a lot and it's pretty fun. Some stuff I could have just skipped altogether like the romance stuff, but the rest of it was right up my alley. Some of the practical effects were really cool. Now, if the pacing were a bit better and the movie were just a bit shorter I think that could have worked in its favor. Also, it took me way too long to figure out that Joe is played by the same actor who played Special Agent Jack Malone in Without A Trace which would have started about 10 years after this. Anyway, I'm going to be starting season 2 of Forever Knight soon and since season 1 of this series also came out in 1992 I can't help but wonder what Innocent Blood's Marie and Joe would be like dropped into the world of Forever Knight's Toronto with Detectives Nick Knight and Donald Schanke.

My review is also on Letterboxd.

Parasyte: The Grey - So far I've only watched the first episode of this Netflix original series, but I'll definitely be back for more.

❋.5
Episode 1: It's a bit slow to start but this could be good. I'm looking forward to getting to know more about our lead mutant and her parasite. Is this going to be like an Eddie and Venom or Jekyll and Hyde kind of thing? Also, when they showed the world map of places that have been infested, it looks like my home state of Ohio has been completely overrun as well. So there's that too.

My review is also on Serialized.

What I Read This Week:

It Will Only Hurt for a Moment by Delilah S. Dawson is a novel I'd been putting off for quite awhile. I ended up really liking the atmosphere and the setting itself, but some of this which I wasn't expecting going into the story I could have totally done without.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

❋

House of Shadows (House of Shadows #1) by Darcy Coates isn't quite a favorite, but I still really enjoyed this one. It's very atmospheric and creepy. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel/ finale to this duology to see what's next.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

❋ ❋

Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White is an impressive and brutal rollercoaster, but I'd still say my favorite from this author is still The Spirit Bares Its Teeth. I also highly recommend the audiobook because the production is outstanding.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

I realized pretty quickly that I wasn't interested in The Agony House by Cherie Priest and illustrated by Tara O'Connor nearly as much as I was hoping to be. The only thing I ended up being interested in was the comic itself and the mystery of its creator. The rest of it was just blah to me.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

What I'm Reading Now:

Smoke and Shadows (Smoke Trilogy #1) Tanya Huff - I've really enjoyed the what I've read of the Vicki Nelson series and this spinoff featuring Henry Fitzroy and Tony Foster sounds pretty cool.
