summer of horror 2026 logo

Happy Sunday Funday and welcome to my seventh weekly update for Summer of Horror 2026 (my second of July), a celebration of all things horror running from June through August and hosted by Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy.  I made some more progress on my tbr and watchlist!  How is is already more than halfway through July!  Keep reading to see what I've gotten up to since last week.

My Summer of Horror This Week:

What I've Watched This Week:

❋.5
NOS4A2 (Season 1) - Netflix - I finished season 1 by watching episodes 7-10.  This wasn't bad at all, but some elements of this definitely work better as a book for me. The main cast is solid, but there are times when it really feels like the 10 episodes dragged. It was fun seeing Zachary Quinto as a villain and I got a kick out of those like Stephen King Easter eggs. I just don't think I'll be back for season 2.

My review is also on Serializd.

❋.5
Episode 7: What if Bing took just a few more seconds at fixing that car? It was still cool to see Charlie Manx go from old to young again. I guess he's going to have to find someone else to get antique car parts from now. Also, I liked that Toy Story reference at the very end - definitely wasn't expecting that!

❋.5
Episode 8: Those cameos at the Parnassus were fun, but it would have been even more fun if it was Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd and Henry Thomas in that scene. Finally, it's practically whiplash knowing Vic's mom is also Percy Jackson's mom!

❋
Episode 9: It's just one thing after another in this one! Really don't like the sexual undertones Charlie Manx's views of Vic have now taken - gross!

❋.5
Episode 10: I wasn't particularly fond of the ending of this season. I realized I was very irritated with the episode the more it went along especially with what happened to Craig. I figured he wouldn't make it, but I didn't expect it would go that way. I like the book this is based on and I remember what happens with Lou and the remaining section of the book, but for some reason I didn't think we'd see any of that in this adaptation especially since it skipped over the first part with younger Vic. As much as I liked the book, the show has been a little shaky. It drags too much overall and I don't think I'll stick around for season 2's 10 episodes. Some of the changes worked for me, but some didn't.

My review is also on Serializd.

Gyeongseong Creature (Season 2) - Netflix - I watched the first episode of season 2 so far.

Episode 1: I really loved season 1 and wondering how season 2 would handle a near 70 year long time skip, but I'm already hooked. I can't wait to see what happens next!

My review is also on Serializd.

What I Read This Week:

House of Secrets (House of Shadows #2) by Darcy Coates is the second half of a gothic horror duology from a favorite author.  I definitely preferred this finale to the first half.  It really takes off and doesn't let up.  I feel like I really flew through it!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Head Cleaner by David James Keaton is a novel that sounded like it could be a lot of fun and right up my alley.  Unfortunately, it was more irritating than anything else.  I love movies, but I wasn't looking for a book where the first 50 pages were primarily movie references.  Some stories have made that work, but this isn't one of them.  I wasn't interested in sticking around for another 350 pages.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

What I'm Reading Now:

Spoiled Milk by Avery Curran - I've really been looking forward to this horror story.  I'll be reading this for my r/Fantasy 2026 Book Bingo Challenge.

Are you participating in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books or watched these movies and shows?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
