Sunday Funday: Memorial Day Weekend Book Haul

Happy Sunday and Memorial Day weekend everyone!  I hope everyone who celebrates it is having a good weekend with nice weather and cloudless skies (unlike the damp weather and threatening clouds overhead).  I was hoping to make it to a local ice cream festival today, but unfortunately that didn't happen.  Thanks, weather.  Tomorrow, though, looks like it will be a better day.

However, the weekend hasn't been a total loss - yesterday, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - it was a lot of fun to be back with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew and Javier Bardem was pretty great as the villain of the story, plus the effects looked awesome - and I made it to the opening weekend of the county's Friends of the Library Book Sale.  It's held at a warehouse which was absolutely packed with materials and shoppers and they had a $5 per stuffed bag special.  The books in the photo above are what I managed to fit into that plastic bag!

Giant by Edna Ferber - The movie is a classic - I'd love to see what the source material is like.

Mob Rules by Cameron Haley - Sounds like a great urban fantasy series opener.

A Void by Georges Perec - There are zero e's in this novel - could be fascinating.

Alif the Unseen by G. Willow Wilson - Described as being for fans of Neal Stephenson, plus it's by the mind behind Kamala Khan!

Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Stories Not for the Nervous - Stories the master has selected, say no more!  Plus, "Sorry, Wrong Number" is one of the features!

Jane Steele by Lindsay Faye (ARC) - This sounds like it will be right up my alley.

Flawed by Cecelia Ahern (ARC) - Definitely have wondered what this could be about because it sounds fascinating.

Leviathan Wakes by James A. Corey - I've heard so many great things about The Expanse, so I should really try the source material before I watch the show.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt - I have no idea why I haven't already devoured this novel.

Have you read any of these books and did you enjoy them?  Which should I try first?  Thanks as always for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

    1. You don't exactly need to have seen the fourth installment to really follow it, but there are a few moments where having seen it would come in handy. Fingers crossed that I'll love all my new to me books! :)

      Thanks for coming over, Alyssa.

    1. Thanks, Greg! They were pretty good - I think his name's Brenton Thwaites. I wish we got to know them a little more though. :) It did get pretty nice - I just didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked to. Hope you had a great holiday weekend!
