The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1) by Mackenzi Lee + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads, The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (Guide #1) by Mackenzi Lee.  I'm so excited to be starting in on this - I honestly have no idea why I've put it off for so long actually.  Anyway, since June is Pride Month I'd say it's a great time to pick it up.  If you follow me on Twitter, I held a poll asking people to vote on the order of my four book #PrideTBR - thanks for voting this novel to be my first choice!

Beginning:

On the morning we are to leave for our Grand Tour of the Continent, I wake in the bed beside Percy.  For a disorienting moment, it's unclear whether we've slept together or simply slept together.

56:

It plays in my head for days, over and over no matter how hard I try to shake it off or console myself with the memory of how good it felt before it all fell apart.

50/50 Friday - Favorite/ Least Favorite Book With A Short/ Long Title  - This was a difficult topic for me, especially for the short title option, so I decided to feature titles from the same author for both categories.

Short Title - Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman - This was actually my first exposure to Gaiman's work and it's still one of my favorites.

Long Title - Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman - This is a fantastic collaboration and I absolutely love it.  I don't know about you, but I'm dying to see the adaptation starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen!

Have you had the chance to try these novels?  As always thanks for perhaps even commenting down below.

  5. I've never actually read anything by Neil Gaiman... which is awful I know as everyone goes on about his books. I really should change that!

    Thanks for linking up!

  6. I started this book but didn't finish it. It seemed a little too slow paced and introspective for what I was in the mood for. This week I have Girl With a Gun by Kari Bovee - a historical mystery from my review stack. Happy reading!

  15. Ooo I'll have to add both of those Neil Gaiman titles to my TBR! I've only read one book by him (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) and I'm kind of undecided on whether I like his writing/genre preference or not (most of the time I'm not really a fan of magical realism but obviously that's not all he writes) so I've been looking to read more of his work. Thanks for linking up, Lauren!
