The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Altered Carbon (Takeshi Kovacs #1) by Richard Morgan + 50/50 Friday
On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.
This week I'm spotlighting one of my Sci-fi July reads for Devour Your TBR, Altered Carbon (Takeshi Kovacs #1) by Richard Morgan. I've heard so many great things about this cyberpunk series and Netflix adaptation looks really cool, so I'm glad to finally be diving in this month.
Beginning:
Two hours before dawn I sat in the peeling kitchen and smoked one of Sarah's cigarettes, listening to the maelstrom and waiting
56:
"Good day, sir. Welcome to the Hotel Hendrix, established in 2087 and still here today. How may we serve you?"
50/50 Friday: Best/ Worst Read of June
Best - I can't decide between Jade City (The Green Bone Saga #1) by Fonda Lee and Lock Every Door by Riley Sager. Both were amazing!
Worst - Alexis vs. the Afterlife by Marcus Alexander Hart- This urban fantasy sounded like it could have been right up my alley as it's been compared to the White Trash Zombie series, but I ended up DNF'ing it at only 10%. The leading character grated on me right from the get go and the sense of humor was too forced for me.
What are you reading this week? Have you read any of these books? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
When the MC is irritating to me I've found I can't enjoy a book so I'd probably feel the same way as you about Alexis VS the Afterlife.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up and have a great weekend!
You might. Thanks for coming over, Carrie.
DeleteHave to check it out on Netflix. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Freda!
DeleteI started this on Netflix. Need to get back to it. I might be missing a good thing:)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get to it soon. :)
DeleteInteresting assortment of books. I will DNF a book if I don't like the main character too. This week I am featuring the best YA I've read so far this year - Past Perfect Life by Elizabeth Eulberg. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI've been hoping to read that one - I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it. :)
DeleteI watched it on Netflix and really enjoyed it. Will have to check out the books at some point!
ReplyDeleteGood to know! :)
DeleteI was wondering why Altered Carbon sounded familiar! It's because of the Netflix show. I haven't seen it--or read the book--but I'm curious.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear Alexis vs. the Afterlife wasn't better. At least you had two favorites for the month. That makes up for it some. :-)
I hope you have a great weekend!
True. Thanks for coming over!
DeleteI cannot wait to read/watch Altered Carbon!
ReplyDeleteLock Every door looks amazing, I really want that one. :)
The book definitely gets my vote and my fingers are crossed for the show. I hope you enjoy Lock Every Door, Sassy.
