The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads for the PopCulture Readathon, The Witch of Willow Hall by Hester Fox .  I'm going for a blackout bingo on the Thrill Ride bingo board and this will fulfill the prompt "Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board" - Book with a creepy or haunted feel.  I've had this on my shelf for quite awhile now and I'm glad to finally be jumping into it.

Beginning:

1811

It was the Bishop boy who started it all.

56:

Unperturbed by my ghastly manners, Mr. Barrett tips his head to see the title.  "The Monk".

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Read Of June

Favorite - I read three amazing books in June and I can't decide between them - The Empire of Gold (The Daevabad Trilogy #3) by S.A. Chakraborty, Sword and Pen (The Great Library #5) by Rachel Caine, and Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky (Tristan Strong #1) by Kwame Mbalia.  I can't recommend them all enough!

Least Favorite - Night Call by Brenden Carlson - I was approved for an ARC via NetGalley and it sounded right up my alley as an alternate 1930s sci-fi noir, but unfortunately I ended up DNF'ing it.  The world-building and characters were incredibly flat and it just wasn't working for me.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I'm not a big historical fan, but I like the creep factor to this one. :-) Happy Independence day weekend! I added you to the linky.

  5. I hope you are enjoying The Witch of Willow Hall. I have this and another of Fox's books on my shelf.

That's too bad about Night Call. I love the cover and it does sound good. Not every book can be a winner though, can it? I am glad, however, to see you really liked Caine's book. I need to get into that series. I enjoyed her Weather Warden books when I read them years ago.

I hope you have a great weekend. Stay safe and well.

    1. It's pretty addictive so far. :)

I have a feeling you'll love The Great Library series. I've really enjoyed everything else I've ever read by her, but the Weather Warden series is one I need to get to myself.
