Wyrd & Wonder 2026 - The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeanette Ng

 

  

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, currently hosted by Anne @ My Head Is Full of Books, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Anne's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday everyone!  Happy Friday everyone!  In honor of Wyrd & Wonder 2026 (a month long celebration of all things fantasy co-hosted by Lisa @ Dear Geek Place, imyril @ There’s Always Room For One More, Ariana @ The Book Nook, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books, and Jorie @ Jorie Loves A Story with artwork by Varvara Gorbash), all of my Friday posts this month will feature my one of my Wyrd & Wonder 2026 reads.  This week I'm spotlighting one of my Spell It Out Reading Challenge 2025 books, Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeanette Ng.  This sounds like it could be a great gothic historical fantasy.

Beginning:

Great and ancient empires , Mahomedan and Heathen, have received a shock by the prowess of British arms, nerved and strengthened by GOD, which has broken down strong, and hitherto invulnerable barriers; and so a way has been opened for His blessed Gospel to pass from here to the remotest bounds of reality.

56:

He led me through half a dozen dizzying corridors that seemed to spiral in on each other until we reached a large courtyard.
