Goddess Bless You from Death (Season 1) - Netflix - I've watched episodes 6 through 13 to complete this Thai series. While I wouldn't quite consider it a favorite, I'm glad I decided to give this horror mystery romance series a try because I enjoyed getting to know the world and the characters. I'm glad the mystery is the main storyline with the romance as a secondary element. I'm also glad this is a series where one of my most hated characters (King) became the character I was most interested in following. I wonder if this show will have a second season, and if so where would it go?

Episode 6: Okay, now I need more backstory with Maysa. What happened to her? I didn't realize Singha had a sister before now? Also, I'm really annoyed with King, but part of me really wants him to get his act together and turn things around because I think he could be a good ally when it comes right down to it. The way it's going so far though, I don't know if that'll ever happen.

Episode 7: I really need that moment between King and his father to be his real turning point. I also need Sey and Darin to be okay. Finally, I really appreciated that we got that moment with Singha's mom at the temple.

Episode 8: I really hope this is a good turning point for King since he seems to be making an effort here. I just want him to be in good standing with his old friends. Not a fan of him only doing this so Singha will take him back. I want him to do it for himself. Anyway, I get where Singha's coming from - about after the case is solved. Thup has to keep his mind on protecting people from potential serial murders and ghost stuff first. That said, the scene with Thup's aunt and uncle was pretty cute.

Episode 9: I appreciate that King is making an effort and that he and Singha are working together on the case. Like I said before, I don't just want him to be doing this to get Singha back but to be doing the work for his own sake. Also, why did Thup have to be so sulky about the whole situation. Seriously, help your potential boyfriend solve this set of serial murders and at least don't act like a kid. Also not a fan of Darin lying to Sey. I think that's going to come back to bite them sooner rather than later. Anyway, they seem to be making it pretty obvious that Thup is going to be the child they're investigating since they keep pointing out he'd be about Thup's age now.

Episode 10: This is the best episode of the series so far. I will say that I actually clapped my hands when Sey stopped Darin's ritual. I expected what we learned from Thup's uncle, but not at all the reveal at the end. I also really appreciated the scene between Singha and King as well as the scene between Singha and Thup after he learned the truth from his uncle. Finally, I love that we're really getting into the case and I want a ghost to take out King's dad.

Episode 11: I take back what I said earlier: this is the best episode of the series so far. It's really ramping up and I can't believe there are only two episodes left. I'm really surprised that King has gone from a character I couldn't stand to the most interesting character in the series. The confrontation between King and his father was the real highlight of this episode for me. I didn't see the ending of the episode coming, but I'm actually worried for him. Otherwise, Singha and Sey are favorite characters at this point.

Episode 12: King, Darin, Sey, Mek, Sing, and Thup better live through this series. Thup, why did you have to get out of the car? Also, not at all surprised by that identity reveal - I haven't trusted that guy from the first second he appeared. Why did they have to split up more on this episode and why are they wasting time instead of hopping right to finding and rescuing King, and taking down the perpetrator?
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Episode 13: Singha, what is wrong with you? Why wouldn't you get that noose off as soon as you possibly could? Anyway, I'm glad both Sey and Singha finally got to see a ghost. The most scared I was in this finale is when King got stabbed. At least, the series has a decently happy ending all things considered. I wish we got to know exactly how much time passed between the final confrontation and the hospital scene though given Sey's statement. As much as I like Singha and Thup, I'm absolutely shocked that my favorite ending of this finale is where we leave King. I really appreciated his character arc in this show. Like I said before, he was initially my least favorite and the character I found the most irritating, so I'm pleased that he became the character that was the most interesting to follow. I honestly wonder what this series would look like if it were totally told from his perspective. Finally, the most surprising mundane thing in this episode was hearing Singha sing the birthday song in English. I definitely wasn't expecting that at all.
I really liked La Sala's style in this duology opener, The Dead of Summer (The Dead of Summer #1) by Ryan La Sala. I was especially interested in the interview and transcript sections and I very much appreciated that there's a map. I wasn't quite expecting this to remind me so much of both We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, but it worked for me. Anyway, at least I won't have to wait too long for the finale! Now I just have to get caught up on the rest of the author's books!

The Resurrectionist by Kathleen S. Allen isn't perfect, but I sure got a kick out of it. The atmosphere and twisted nature of the story are a lot of fun. As a fan of both Frankenstein (Professor Clerval!) and Stalking Jack the Ripper (this doesn't have the romance element), this was a lot of fun. Yes, Dilly is kind of all over the place, but I didn't mind it so much. That said, there were some things i really wish this did a bit more with: that mostly dead woman in the graveyard, the scaring off the Ripper and finding one of his victims bit, Dilly's thoughts on that Sherlock Holmes book she received as a gift, and a more about their servant Edmund because honestly he's the MVP in that household. Overall, I really had fun with this and I'm looking forward to more of what this author will write in the future.
