Happy Monday and welcome to Music Monday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting three of my favorite songs from the movie Anchors Aweigh (1945) starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.  It's not my favorite musical starring the both of them, but it's still pretty fantastic.  Check out I Begged Her (Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra), I Fall In L...

ARC Mini Review: A Summoning of Souls, Ever Cursed, Poe Dameron: Free Fall, & It Will Just Be Us

Today I'm sharing four mini reviews with you:  A Summoning of Souls ( Spectral City #3) by Leanna Renee Hieber  (available July 21, 2020),  Ever Cursed by Corey Ann Haydu  (available July 28, 2020),  Poe Dameron: Free Fall by Alex Segura  (available August 4, 2020), and  It Will Just Be Us by Jo Kaplan  (available August 11, 2020)  I received these ARCs from NetGalley in exchange for honest reviews.  Read on to see my thoughts on them: ❋   ❋  ❋   ❋ A Summoning of Souls by Leanna Renee Hieber is the third installment of the Spectral City series and I enjoyed seeing these characters again. The series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and I'm so lucky to have been approved for them. I have a soft spot for historical fantasy and this novel, and the series as a whole, hits almost all the right notes. I love the ghostly and creepy elements as well as the notes of real life history that are interspersed throug...

The Shadows by Alex North (Audiobook ARC) - Review

❋  ❋  ❋   ❋ You knew a teenager like Charlie Crabtree. A dark imagination, a sinister smile - always on the outside of the group. Some part of you suspected he might be capable of doing something awful. Twenty-five years ago, Crabtree did just that, committing a murder so shocking that it's attracted that strange kind of infamy that only exists on the darkest corners of the internet - and inspired more than one copycat. Paul Adams remembers the case all too well: Crabtree - and his victim - were Paul's friends. Paul has slowly put his life back together. But now his mother, old and senile, has taken a turn for the worse. Though every inch of him resists, it is time to come home. It's not long before things start to go wrong. Reading the news, Paul learns another copycat has struck. His mother is distressed, insistent that there's something in the house. And someone is following him. Which reminds him of the most unsettling thing about that awful day 25 years ago. I...

Disney-a-Thon: Team Hercules

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope everyone is staying healthy.  This August I'm taking part in another readathon, the  Disney-a-Thon .  It is Disney themed readathon that lasts for the entire month of August.  It was created by  @izcurrentlyread  and co-hosted by  @natureofpages , @TheFranciscoMP , and @celebrityreadsh .  I took part in this last year and it was so much fun. You can check out my wrap up post from last year here .  You can join one of four teams to direct your path (The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Frog, Beauty and the Beast, and Hercules).  If you like, you can even take a fun little  quiz  to find out which team you belong to.  Hercules is one of my favorite and one of the most underrated Disney movies, so I knew I had to join that team.  I even took the quiz and it told me I ought to join Team Hercules, so it's official.  I'm now a proud member of Team Hercules!  B...

The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Supernova (Renegades #3) by Marissa Meyer + 50/50 Friday

For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs. Happy Friday everyone!...

Magical Readathon N.E.W.T.s. 2020 - Announcement & TBR

As you may know, I've been taking part in this year's  Magical Readathon , hosted by G. @ Book Roast. This year will be the final time for this readathon and I'm taking part in the conclusion with the N.E.W.T.s  which will run from August 1st - August 31st as I've already taken part in the O.W.L.S. and the Visit Hogsmeade readathon .  I totally understand G.'s reasoning for making her decision and appreciate her for what she's doing and how things will be changing up in the future of the readathon next year.  If you are interested, you can watch her video where she discusses this here . Now, on to the details of the N.E.W.T.s: To complete my course of study for the Magizoologist career path (in honor of one of my favorite characters, Newt Scamander) I am required to earn an Outstanding in Care of Magical Creatures, an Exceeds Expectations in Charms, and an Exceeds Expectations in Herbology.  This means that for Care of Magical I'll need to complete the...

The StoryGraph: First Impressions

Happy Wednesday everyone! Today, I'm going to be talking about a website that's currently in beta, The StoryGraph .  I've seen it popping up all over the blogosphere and Twitter recently and needless to say I was intrigued by what I saw.  It looks like it could be the next Goodreads.  I enjoy keeping track of my reading and Goodreads offers a pretty decent platform to do that.  Sure, it isn't perfect - I wish there were half stars, better recommendations, and the app could really do with a bit of an overhaul.  I always enjoy checking out other users ratings and reviews along with going over my own reading statistics over the course of the year.   The StoryGraph looks like it has a lot of potential to be a great, yet different, alternative once it has been finished. It describes itself as "a site for readers to find books that perfectly suit their mood."  Once I signed up for an account imported my Goodreads data, I couldn't resist going ove...
