Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer

It's already Tuesday - it doesn't seem like it!  This Memorial Day weekend really through me off.  Thanks to all those who served.  Anyways, the theme this week for Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer or Books I Think Make Great Beach Reads.  I don't really have a "beach bag" or even go to the beach for that matter, I'm taking the first option.  The books on this list are all books I plan to read this summer.  Here we go, in alphabetical order:

All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka - I watched the movie adaptation Edge of Tomorow: Live Die Repeat with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt not too long and it was awesome.  If the book has a fraction of that awesomeness it would still be great!

Cold Days by Jim Butcher - This is the fourteenth installment of The Dresden Files, one of my favorite urban fantasy series.  I've just picked up this one and the next one, Skin Game, in paperback and I can't wait to continue Harry's adventure, especially since that ending in Ghost Story!

Downfall by Rob Thurman - This is the ninth installment of the Cal Leandros series, another one of my favorites of the urban fantasy genre.  This series just keeps getting better and I can't wait to see where Thurman goes here!

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir - I just picked this new YA fantasy a short time ago and I'm interested in seeing what all the fuss is about.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke - I've head so many amazing things about this novel and I must admit the trailer for the tv show looks absolutely brilliant!  I have to read this before I watch the show.

The Quantum Thief by Hannu Rajaniemi - This sounds like the best kind of weird.  And, just look at that cover!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard - I fully expect to love this!

A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin - I need to continue this series!

Tricked by Kevin Hearne - This urban fantasy series is quickly becoming one of my favorites as well and I can't wait to see what's next for Atticus O'Sullivan here in the fourth installment of The Iron Druid .

Unbound by Jim C. Hines - I have enjoyed the Magic Ex Libris series so much - as I librarian myself I get quite a kick out of it!

What do you think of my list?  Have you read, or want to read any of these books?  Until next Tuesday!

  2. Oh there are so many books on your list that I want to read! Red Queen, Ember in the Ashes, and Jonathon Strange are at the very top of my own TBR, though they didn't make it to my own list.

  4. Hi Lauren,

I like that your list is so heavy on the fantasy/urban fantasy side of things. I always get pulled towards contemporary romance books in the summer but in the autumn I love a good fantasy book. I haven't heard of a few of your choices so I will go and check them out right now! I have read Red Queen though, but me and it didn't really get on. I am looking forward to reading An Ember in the Ashes though.

Happy Reading and thanks for stopping by our blog

    1. What can I say, I have a major soft spot for fantasy and sci-fi. :D I've never been much for contemporary romance - there are some that I like, but they aren't generally my go to genre. I have heard that about Red Queen before but I'm still looking forward to it.

  6. I've heard a lot about The Red Queen too. Still on the fence if I'm going to read it or not. (I like some fantasy, but mystery is my go-to genre.)

  11. I've tried to read Jonathan Strange several times but I just can't get into it. I don't know why. It's the kind of book I SHOULD enjoy, but I find it kinda slow.

  13. A great list! I have heard of some of the titles. A new Japanese author is interesting and the Finnish author Hannu Rajaniemi I didn´t know of.
George R. R. Martin is on my to-be-read-list. Susanna Clarke too. I wish you happy reading!

  14. Great list! I agree with the ASOIAF pick - I flew through the first one but had to put the second one down halfway through because of exams.. But I'm definitely hoping to pick it up again ASAP! And I've heard interesting things about Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.. I'll be interested to hear what you think when you do pick it up!

  16. I have already read Red Queen and I will tell you one thing, IT IS AMAZING! All of the hype is justified with this book, especially if you love dystopian/fantasy books (which you have a lot on your list, so I am going to assume that you do).
I hope you have a great summer full of good books!

  19. Red Queen and An Ember in the Ashes both look great. I stared at both of them in Barnes and Noble last weekend and then walked out without either of them. Making decisions on what to read can be so difficult sometimes.

  28. A STORM OF SWORDS!! Potentially my favourite ASOIAF so far ... though the first one was brill. So is A Feast for Crows, which I'm reading currently. They're all brill! /they all cause me horrendous pain. Whichever you like.

I'd like to read Red Queen. Also Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which I think I've owned for about 2 years! I was wondering the other day what the longest owned, unread book on my shelf is and I think it's that one! I NEED to read it soon!

  30. Wow, FOURTEEN books on Harry the Wizard? :) I only managed one so far and I liked it - I have book 2 at home now and I'm planning on reading it soon. I like seeing people so committed to the series, though, it tells me it's worth continuing.

  31. Great list! I haven't read any of these myself, but they all seem perfectly fun and full of action. Hope you get to read them soon.
