Halloween Reads 2025 - Wrap Up & Mini Reviews

beetlejuice saying it's showtime

Happy Friday everyone!  Today's Halloween and I thought I'd share what I read my wrap up and mini reviews for the spooky books I read in October.  I wasn't able to get to all the books on my original tbr, but I think I did pretty good.  Without further ado, let's get to the reading material:

Blood Debt book cover

 ❋ ❋

Blood Debt (Vicki Nelson #5) by Tanya Huff isn't quite as good as the previous installment but I still enjoyed revisiting the characters even if so much has changed.  Vicki is different this time around and I totally didn't mind that at all.  It was interesting to see her coming into her new identity.  I can't wait to read Blood Bank and the Smoke Trilogy

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Crafting for Sinners book cover

 ❋ ❋

Religious cult horror set at a craft store is a pretty cool idea and Crafting for Sinners by Jenny Kiefer really worked for me. It is a bit over the top and some themes can come across as a bit heavy handed, but I had a great time with this. I can't wait for whatever Jenny Kiefer writes next!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Devil's Wake book cover

 ❋

Devil's Wake (Devil's Wake #1) by Stephen Barnes and Tananarive Due is my least favorite from Due, and my first from Steven Barnes. It's a solid zombie story overall, but not a favorite or particularly memorable now that I've completed it.  I doubt I'll be back for the next book in the series.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Fire & Ash book cover

 ❋ ❋

Fire & Ash (Rot & Ruin #4) by Jonathan Maberry is another great installment of this YA zombie series. I don't read a lot of zombie books but this is consistently great.  I need to get caught up on this series and the Joe Ledger series.  Thanks for the reminder about Joe Ledger!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Ghost Station book cover

 ❋

Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes is a solid sci-fi horror standalone. For me, I wasn't as into as I was the author's previous release. My favorite aspect of this novel was the atmosphere and setting. I wish I liked the characters, especially Ophelia, more than I did.  Oh, well.  I'm still looking forward to trying more from this author.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Our Wicked Histories book cover

 ❋

Our Wicked Histories by Amy Goldsmith  is a solid YA horror novel.  It takes a while to get going, but once it does the pacing is good.  That said, I also thought the book was too long as well.  I wasn't particularly fond of the characters. Why didn't Meg just leave? Or just not go at all?

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Thirteen Storeys book cover

 ❋

Thirteen Storeys by Jonathan Sims starts off strong, but by the time I'd made it through the shorts about the different tenants I'd nearly forgotten who the ones were from the beginning of that section.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

voices in the snow book cover

 ❋  ❋

Voices in the Snow (Black Winter #1) by Darcy Coates is another favorite from this author. I need Clare and Dorran to be okay. They must be protected at all costs.  I'm excited and nervous to read the rest of the series.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Have you read any of these books?  What did you read for the spooky season?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
