The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave #2) by Rick Yancey - Review

❋  ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ Cassie, Ben, and Ringer had no idea how far the Others would be willing to go in order to rid the earth of humanity. As the 5th wave approaches, they have to face up to the Others main goal of human extermination and they will see just how far they enemy will sink. Overall, I think I liked the sequel a little more than the first volume. After I got into the swing of the audiobook, that is, which was a bit difficult to keep track of who was speaking in the beginning. I have heard mixed comments about Ringer's perspective, but that was actually one of my favorite sections. I didn't expect it to be as long, but it actually works out really well to include her story. I also liked the reveal about the Silencers. I believe this best fits my reaction: Finally, I highly recommend this fantastic sequel and I cannot wait until the next installment is released next August. I listened to this audiobook from December 10 - 13, 2014 and my review ...

Resist (Among Us #2) by Anne-Rae Vasquez - Review

❋  ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ I acted as a beta reader for Resist  by Anne-Rae Vasquez and it was an honor to do so for this fantastic sequel to Doubt . Resist jumps right back into action immediately after book one draws to a close. Harry and Cristal have to learn to navigate the human and spiritual worlds in order to save earth from destruction. They have to find out the truth behind GN's involvement and research involving their missing loved ones. If that wasn't hard enough, they have to fight the angels who have given up on saving humans from them selves leaving Harry and Cristal in a tough spot. But Harry thinks his ragtag group of online gamers may just have a chance at saving the world. Resist is an excellent sequel to Doubt . There is even more world-building with the mythology and themes going deeper than ever. The characters are also really growing into themselves, especially Cristal. I was also pleased to see the return of other characters, who wi...

The Friday 56: Greywalker by Kat Richardson

Welcome to The Friday 56, a weekly meme hosted by  Freda's Voice . These are the rules: 1. Grab a book, any book. 2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader. 3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you. 4. Post it. 5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. I've been meaning to read Greywalker by Kat Richardson for awhile now - it'll be one of my next upcoming reads! "Did I gross you out? Sorry. Nothing makes me queasy anymore.  I'm premed.  He was starting to look a little better about the time he took off, but he was pretty pale you know?" -page 56 from my paperback copy

The Taytyay Book Tag

I've been tagged by Eclectic Introspections to participate in The Taytay Book Tag.  Thanks very much!  Don't forget to visit the blog! At first when I read the title of this tag, I'll admit I was a bit confused.  I wasn't familiar with the tag or the nickname for that matter.  I don't really follow Taylor Swift's music all that much.  I know the music from listing to the radio, but personally I don't seek out her music in my spare time.  None the less I will be doing this tag since it does look like fun. 1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together  - pick a book or series you were pretty sure you were in love with, but then wanted to break up with. I really wanted to like Unbreakable by Kami Garcia .  I mean, it's compared to Supernatural  and Buffy the Vampire Slayer  - that sounds awesome, right?  Wrong.  After a while, I realized I was basically reading to see if Garcia would call Lukas and Jared (really!) Sam and D...

Jackaby by William Ritter - Review

❋  ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ Freshly arrived in New Fiddleham, New England, 1892, Abigail Rook is in need of a job. She meets R.F. Jackaby through his job posting for an assistant. Jackaby is a peculiar sort of detective with an eye for the supernatural and he believes Miss Rook's ability to notice ordinary, yet important details would make her an excellent candidate for the job. On her first day, she finds herself in right in the middle of a case involving a serial killer, whom Jackaby suspects is a supernatural being. Honestly, it had me at Doctor Who meets Sherlock ! William Ritter's Jackaby is easily one of my favorite reads of the year. It's a perfect blend of everything I love from the characters, mystery, comedy, and supernatural elements. By the way, Jackaby is combination of Benedict Cumberbatch's (and a bit of Jeremy Brett's) Sherlock and David Tennant's portrayal of the Doctor with a dash of Matt Smith thrown into the mix. I can't recommend...

Scowler by Daniel Kraus - Review

❋  ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ Nineteen-year-old Ry Burke and his family are barely scraping by on their dying family farm. Ry is consumed by memories of his physically and emotionally abusive father, Marvin, who is now serving hard time in prison after a horrific event that occurred 10 years ago which left Ry scarred for life. One day the unthinkable happens, there's a prison break and Marvin gets out. There is no doubt that Marvin is coming back to the farm to get his revenge. Ry will need to delve into his past to recall three imaginary friends to help him survive the coming terror, Mr. Furrington, plastic Jesus, and Scowler. Scowler is incredibly dark, horrifying, twisty, and gory. It features some very heavy psychological themes when it comes to Ry's compartmentalization of the abuse at his father's hand which comes into play with his "imaginary friends." Mr. Furrington, Jesus, and Scowler are his favorite toys come to life and they each take on the roles of his...
