Top Ten Tuesday: Dislikable Characters

Happy Tuesday everyone!  This week's theme for Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, is Books On My Summer TBR which, for me, is essentially the post I made for May 27th's Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer.  Since that is the case, I'm going to choose an older topic from their list that I haven't done.  I'm going to go with Dislikable Characters as my theme this week, which was originally posted on August 10, 2010.  I'm including characters from books I've both disliked and liked along with my reactions to them in gif format.

From books I dislike:

Brit from Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Juliette from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Luce from Fallen by Lauren Kate

Nora from Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Quentin Coldwater from The Magicians by Lev Grossman

From books I like:

Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Joffrey Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin

Nick and Amy Dunne from Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

What do you think of my change of topic?  Do we find the same characters unlikable?  Thanks for visiting and please comment.  I love a good comment!

  1. I liked your twist on the topic!! I find unlikable characters really interesting, especially if it's a good book! I mean, the author is still getting an emotion out of us, right!?? So that's a GOOD thing even if we hate the characters. XD I haven't read most of these but ARGHHHH TO JOFFERY. I'm on Clash of Kings and he really is just awful.

  2. Haha love your list! And especially your use of gifs. I definitely feel your anger and frustration at some of those characters too :D particularly Juliette from Shatter Me.

  3. I like your change of topic! I actually didn't do the beach bag topic so the summer TBR list works for me. Joffrey was just the worst. I haven't yet finished the last book, but huzzah Joff is gone!

    Thanks for stopping by earlier!

  5. I totally agree with Juliette from Shatter Me. I didn't enjoy it either. I was deceived by the ridiculously gorgeous cover (the one with the eye) and Dorlores Umbridge is my all-time nastiest villian! I hate that she tried to portray herself as sugar-sweet when she was a totally rotten apple! Ugh, she made my skin crawl!

Great topic! And thanks for stopping by our blog
    Happy Reading,

    1. I had heard so much about Shatter Me and I decided it was time to see what all the hype was about - it just wasn't for me, at all. I had the other cover - the one with the girl in the ball gown. Umbridge is worse than Voldemort! :)

  6. Yes, but our dislike of Joffrey makes it feel a bit more satisfying when he meets his end. He reaped what he sewed, really.

    1. I know what happens and I can't wait to see it play out both in the books and on screen! :)

  7. Definitely the worst. Cathy was really annoying - I just preferred Heathcliff as an unlikable character. :)

  8. I actually agree with quite a few of these picks, but the gifs make them hilarious!

  9. Fun list idea! I felt the same way - since we seemed to have just done this for beach reading. :) I ended up picking another 10 books, there's always more books I want to read. LOL

  10. It is good to see a change up on the Top Ten Tuesday! I think I missed this topic too, which is a shame because it seems really fun!
I agree with Juliette (I still think she is certifiably insane and should stay locked up) and Umbridge (she can share a cell with Juliette). I have not gotten to Gone Girl yet, but I am pretty sure that I will not like either of the Dunnes.

    1. The Dunnes deserve each other that's for sure - horrible characters, but such a great book! Maybe Joff could share that cell. :)

  11. I love that you changed the topic completely! They've been really repetitive lately... I hated basically all the characters from Fallen! Haha!

    Here are my Top Ten!

  12. We must bond over our mutual dislike for Hush, Hush. I think if I made this list, I would have put Patch on it. I'm also not a big fan of Shatter Me and Heathcliff is so very bitter and awful!

    1. I really should have too, but I think Patch bothered me less simply because he seemed more consistent, you know?

  13. Oh gosh, Luce, she is not only dislikable but stupid as hell. Ugh, please don't make me think of that series. Great list! :)

  14. Oh Dolores. I hate that woman.

  15. Dolores Umbridge is always going to be the top character I just love to hate. Something about her just feels like a well written chick-lit novel, and I love to see her flop.

  16. Every character ever from Becca Fitzpatrick AND Lauren Kate. I'm so with you there. lol. Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

  17. I love the idea of an unlikable character (which kind of defeats the purpose of them, I know.) Jane Austen writes great unlikable characters, and pretty much every one from The Great Gatsby makes my list of the best unlikable characters. Heathcliff and Cathy are great choices too!

  22. Ohh I love this topic! I have only read Shatter Me from your list, and I did like Juliette, but your topic switch is fabulous!!

GAH, I left a comment, and it was eaten :( Anyway, I am so excited for Hello? And Tonight the Streets are Ours too! And Since You've Been Gone looks so good too. I had some trouble getting into Proof of Forever, but I am going to give it another shot! Great list, hope you love them all!

  24. :) Almost anyone who's read/watched Game of Thrones can agree on Joffrey hating. Lots of fun-to-hate characters in that series, but he takes the prize.

Umbridge though. You can't not hate her, but at the same time she's one of the scariest villain in HP because she honestly thinks she's doing the right thing, and you've probably met a dozen people just like her in real life. *shudders*

    1. Definitely plenty to hate in that series - but he does take the cake! :) 100% right on Umbridge.

  25. I found Nora to be annoying too! That's why I put the series down. I may give it another go though.
