Olympic Book Tag

I saw this tag over on It Starts At Midnight and it just seemed like the perfect bookish complement to the Olympics that I couldn't pass it up!  On to the tag:

Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby #3) by William Ritter - I loved every second of the newest installment of a new favorite series!

Blood Red Road (Dust Lands #1) by Moira Young - Saba will do anything to get her kidnapped brother back in the dusty world beyond Silverlake.  If you like the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness, you will love this series!

The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare - I usually don't care for love triangles, but I liked how Tessa, Jem, and Will were handled.

The Hope We Seek by Rich Shapero - I only made it to page sixty of this, but I just felt like I was completely missing something important throughout.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - I mean, Gatsby only hosts some of the best summer parties!

Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson - Hiro Protagonist is the best sword fighter in the world!  The drawing above is one of my favorite pieces of fan art for the character!

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart - Seriously, non-stop twists and turns here!

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness - This one about did me in, but it's definitely one of the best!

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke - It takes it's time to get going, but it's worth every second!

Corduroy by Don Freeman - How could you not love Corduroy?!

My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell - This is easily one of my all-time favorite autobiographies - and it's pretty hysterical - featuring Gerald Durrell, a prominent British naturalist, as a boy while he and his family lived in Corfu in the 1930s.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness - It has a great hook and it only took me a week to finish the audiobook, but it was got so repetitive and slow that I probably wouldn't have made it if I was reading it in print.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - The title characters - Gansey, Adam, Ronan, and Noah, plus Blue, make an unstoppable group!

Forewarning- all of my choices featuring fencing!

The Princess Bride by William Goldman - Have you studied your Agrippa?

Sharps by K.J. Parker - Bloody good fencing!

The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas - The classic with plenty of action, adventure, and fencing!

That was a fun tag to put together!  Thanks again for making this up, Shannon - perfect timing!  Since, I have no idea who has done this tag yet, or who wants to, I'm not going to tag anyone in particular, but if you would like to join in please feel free.  As for my selections, have you had the opportunity to read any of them?  And, can you tell just how much I like fencing?

  1. Ooooh I totally agree with The Infernal Devices being one of the best book with love triangle! The worst would go to Twilight though... haha and I love Gansey's squad on The Raven Cycle! They're all so complex and have their own issues but they care so deeply with each other! and I want to read We Were Liars so badlyyy I've been hearing so many great reviews about it! Great post :D

  2. I might just have to do this tag too! I have this and The Book Sacrifice to do now. :) Talking about tags, I tagged you in the Netflix and Books tag on my blog here! I had such a hard time wrapping my head around We Were Liars after the plot twist! **spoiler**And there's still the question of whether or not they were ghosts or figments of her imagination...**end of spoiler** I have yet to read the second or third books in the Infernal Devices trilogy, but I'm eagerly anticipating the love triangle! I hear so many great things about it!

  4. A Monster Calls was so good! It made me sob, too. And the movie is going to wreck me as well (but I'm looking forward to it!).

I really need to get going on the Jackaby series! I only ever see praise for it and I have the first one so what's wrong with me? Too many books and not enough time.

  11. WE WERE LIARS! People don't talk about that one quite so much these days but it really is one of the best. And then, of course the TRB friendship is the best <333

I really like the cover of The Hope We Seek ... what was it about?

    1. It was all over the place when it was new, but the hype seemed to drop off pretty quickly afterward - like you said it's one of the best, as is the friendship in TRB!

If I remember right it was about a sharpshooter and a woman looking for her brother. They come across a mining camp with a boss that rules the miners as a tyrannical priest. They are mining for a goddess called Hope. And, the man and the woman that find the camp plan on overthrowing the mine boss. I felt like I was totally missing something crucial even after the 60 pages I did make it through. The cover totally makes me think of the silent movie, Metropolis.
