Real Neat Blog Award, Pt. 2

I've just been nominated by TT @ Intro to Blurb for my second Real Neat Blog Award!  Thanks so much TT!

Rules:

1. Thank and link the blogger that nominated you.
2. Answer the seven questions that have been put to you.
3. Nominate seven bloggers.
4. Create seven questions for your nominees.

My questions:

1. A quote from the page of the book that you are currently reading?

This quote is from page 34 of Carry On by Rainbow Rowell:

Most magicians know who I am.  Most of them knew I was coming before I knew myself; there's a prophecy about me - a few prophecies, actually - about a superpowerful magician who'll come along and fix everything.

And one will come to end us.
And one will bring his fall.
Let the greatest power of powers reign,
May it save us all.

2. Can you read on long car journeys?

Yes, and if I'm not reading as a passenger I might even be listening to an audiobook if I'm driving.

3. Favorite breakfast cereal.

Grits are one of my favorite hot breakfast cereals!

4. Is there a literary trope that you adore, but are too afraid to admit for fear of immediate shunning from society?

Generally speaking in YA, I do actually like when the characters like older, retro music that would have been more popular when the author was younger.  I'm just hoping to find a YA contemporary novel where the main character loves big band music just as much as I do!

5. What's your favorite time period to read about?  Any must-reads from said era?

The Victorian era -

Modern: Jackaby series by William Ritter, The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare, The Monstrumologist series by Rick Yancey, These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas, The Cure for Dreaming by Cat Winters

Classic: Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle,  Dracula by Bram Stoker,  Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, The Beetle by Richard Marsh, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

6. Favorite Pizza Topping?

Ham and pineapple - I love Hawaiian pizza!

7. Firstly, who are your top three favourite fictional characters? Then, play "Snog, Marry, Kill” with said fictional idols.

Oh my, I'm horrible at this!  Okay, here are three recent favorites: Locke Lamora (from The Lies of Locke Lamora), Jackaby (from Ghostly Echoes), Kashmir (from The Girl from Everywhere) - as for the game I'll go in that order for the characters listed.  I'm so sorry, Kashmir!

My Nominees:

Genni @ Ready, Set, Read!
Ellen and Sierra @ Quest Reviews
czai @ The Blacksheep Project
Mari @ Story and Somnomancy
Mareli @ Mareli Thalk Ink
Wendy @ Musings of a Bookish Kitty
Jacqueline @ Fandom Forever

My questions:

I really like TT's questions, so instead of creating all new questions I'm going to ask my nominees to answer the same questions I did.

Thanks again, TT!

  1. Super glad you gave it a go! (and liked the questions, hehe)

HAWAIIAN PIZZA IS MY FAVOURITE TOO, WELL DONE *applauds* correct answer! *high-fives for sharing the car reading trait* I FEEL SO SORRY FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN'T DO THIS!

Also, are you enjoying the Rainbow Rowell? I'm so tempted to open up one of her novels next.

  2. Hawaiian pizza is one of my favorites too. :D I've never actually had grits before, which always surprises people! Especially because I live in NC! These are great questions - thanks so much for nominating me Lauren!

  3. What are grits? I was enjoying this post, and then I enjoyed it even more when "Snog, Marry, Kill" popped up -- a definite blast from the past! Snog is such a hilarious tween British word XD

    1. Grits is a savory dish made from a meal of ground corn boiled with either water or milk (milk is the best), and you can also add butter or cheese to it if you like. Usually, it's more popular in the South - where it could be eaten as a side at lunch or dinner rather than just breakfast (shrimp and grits).

Yeah, definitely not a word I would usually say! :D When I was in middle school, it was always "Kiss, Marry, Kill".
