Sunday Funday: Book Haul

Since my last book haul post in early June, I've accumulated a tremendous amount of books.  Most of them, I won through giveaways, received for my birthday, bought secondhand or at bargain outlet stores.  Of all of them, I only actually bought five of these brand new (but still with various discounts applied).  I tried to restrain myself, but you know how that goes, especially when you come across awesome sales.

Let's start with the books that I actually bought:

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne - I actually pre-ordered this one and I almost never do that.  You can see my review here.

Underground Airlines by Ben H. Winters - This is one of my most anticipated adult sci-fi and fantasy releases for the second half of the year - hopefully it will be as intriguing as it sounds.

Steeplejack by A.J. Hartley - This novel made my list of most anticipated releases of this summer and I've heard so many great things about it!  Can't wait to dig in!

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows, and Brodi Ashton - I realized that I couldn't pass up on this one - it sounds like so much fun.

Black City Saint by Richard A. Knaak - This just sounds awesome - I mean, Saint George in Prohibition era Chicago?!

And now for my winnings:

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab - I really lucked out here!  I won my choice of book under $17 or under via Laura @ 125 Pages, so of course I had to choose this one.  Thanks so much, Laura!

Ghostly Echoes by William Ritter - I was absolutely thrilled that I won the third book in the Jackaby series ARC via Goodreads Giveaways!  It was so awesome - you can see my review here.

If you thought those were lucky, you won't believe that I won all sixteen books in the above two pictures as part of the three great prizes given away for Autumn and Kari @ From the TBR Pile's sixth blogoversary celebration!  Of the three prizes, I received one of the surprise mixed box of books, a good deal of which are ARCs.  Thanks again, guys!

To make it a little more manageable, I sorted them into two groups.  Those in the top picture are the ones that I'm most interested in, going from top row left to right and then bottom row left to right.  For instance, the three that I'm most looking forward to are:

A Burnable Book by Bruce Holsinger - Come on, it's a thriller set in Chaucer's London!

The Coffins of Little Hope by Timothy Schaffert - The back of this ARC says that it features "an octogenarian obituary writer who stumbles on the story of her life when her small Midwestern town surprisingly becomes the seat of pop culture notoriety - with a missing girl, a famous YA book series, and so much more..." That sold me on a book I'd never heard of before!

Angel Killer by Andrew Mayne - This one follows an FBI agent from a long line of illusionists investigating a case that seems to defy all logical explanations.  Sounds cool to me!

Next up are the books that I received from the local library book warehouse sale:

Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry - I've been told I need to try this author, so when I saw this advanced copy at the library sale for free I thought I ought to try it out.

Blue City by Ross MacDonald - I'm always interested in hard-boiled crime fiction from the 1940s.

Gilded by Christina Farley - I don't know a lot about Korean mythology, but this seems like it could be a great place to start.

M.Y.T.H. Inc. in Action by Robert Asprin - This is actually the ninth book in the series, but I've heard it's something like Discworld and that was enough for me to want to give it a shot.

The top picture in the set was found at Half Price Books and the bottom picture is from the Half Price Books Clearance Sale.  I found so many interesting titles there that I've been looking forward to, and some that were brand new to me.  Some of the new ones that piqued my interest included The Lazarus Gate, The Walls of the Universe (the main character's from Ohio!), Tin Swift, The Ring of Five, and The Hallowed Hunt.

I really lucked out when I found the above books at bargain outlet shops like Ollie's and Book Outlet while they were on clearance!  I've been looking forward to all of these, so while they were a dollar or two dollars a piece I couldn't pass them up!  And, they're all in excellent condition - since sometimes that can be a bit of an issue at Ollie's.  I'll finally have an excuse to continue the Immortal City series and finish the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy!

Now the above picture are all books were those I've received for my birthday (on July 24th) which we're either gifts or the result of gift cards.  I really lucked out and got my hands on what look to be real winners this year!

Heroine Complex by Sarah Kuhn - Read the blurb for this one and I'm sure you'll be sold, if you aren't already.

Dirty Magic by Jaye Wells - This sounds like exactly the kind of urban fantasy I need in my life.

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman - It's been billed as Doctor Who with librarian spies!  Doesn't that just sound awesome?!

My Best Friend's Exorcism by Grady Hendrix - After Horrorstor, I'll try anything by Hendrix!

The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan - It's Rick Riordan - of course, I'll be reading it!

The Dark Missions of Edgar Brim by Shane Peacock - I hadn't heard of this one before, but it sounds like it could be a good piece of gothic horror, and that's one of my favorite genres.

Lies I Live By by Lauren Sabel - Stars a psychic spy - cool!

If you made it this far, congratulations!  I know, I know... My tbr has truly become mountainous in the past couple of months.  Although, if I'm honest with myself, it already was a mountain long before that.  Anyway, have you read any of these books that I've managed to accumulate recently?  If you have, would you recommend one for me to dig into first?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even leaving a comment!

  10. "I tried to restrain myself, but you know how that goes" -- haha, yes I do, friend! Though you have so many library sales and discount things and stuff! Why do these things never happen to me?!

I'm afraid to say I've read precisely zero of these books, but I do have Uprooted by my bed at the moment .... A Burnable Book sounds cool and Coffins of Little Hope sounds AWESOME! All of those amazing elements it has! I love a book containing a famous YA series!
