Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge 2025 - March Update: Here & Night Life

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope everyone's been doing well this month.  I've completed 6 total tasks for Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge.  The two tasks I completed in March required me to read a wordless comic and to pick a 2015 Read Harder Challenge task to complete - the 2015 task I've selected is to read a book written by someone when they were under the age of 25.  I selected Here by Richard McGuire and Night Life (Nocturne City #1) by Caitlin Kittredge respectively.  Read on to see my mini reviews and my plans for next month:

I like the idea of Here by Richard McGuire , but I wish there was more of a story, characters, and voice to this. I'm surprised to say this, but I would stick with the 2024 movie adaptation with Tom Hanks. At least there were characters to follow along with in that slice of life story.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Night Life (Nocturne City #1) by Caitlin Kittredge is an urban fantasy series opener that sounded like it had a lot of potential to be a lot of fun.  Unfortunately, it was not great. It has it's moments but they are too few and far between.  It might have helped if I liked the main character, or any of the others for that matter.  Anyway, the book definitely doesn't live up to those blurbs on the front cover. I definitely won't be back for the rest of the series.  I may try something else from the author in the future, or then again maybe not.

My review is on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Next Up For April:

Read a nonfiction book about nature or the environment.

My choice: The Twenty-One: The True Story of the Youth Who Sued the U.S. Government Over Climate Change by Elizabeth Rusch - I'm always on the lookout for YA nonfiction and this sounds like it will be a powerful read.

Read literary fiction by a BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and/or disabled author.

My choice: James by Percival Everett - I'm on hold for this on Libby and I'm currently #829 on 71 copies so hopefully it will be coming in around April.

Are you taking part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
