Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge: December Update -

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I've now completed all 24 total tasks for Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge.  I completed the two tasks for December (a bit earlier than expected) which required me to read a holiday romance that isn’t Christmas and a “cozy” book by a BIPOC author and I selected Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell and We'll Prescribe You A Cat (We'll Prescribe You A Cat #1) by Syou Ishida.  Read on to see my mini reviews and hopefully the 2026 challenge will be announced:

❋

Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell was okay. but I feel like I could have just skipped it and wouldn't have missed much of anything. I'm going to be honest: the second of the two stories, "Kindred Spirits" set my teeth on edge more than anything I felt while reading these stories. And that's coming from someone who just likes to watch a Star War (even if sometimes they aren't always the best).

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋ ❋

We'll Prescribe You A Cat (We'll Prescribe You A Cat #1) by Syou Ishida was such a pleasant surprise.  I didn't really know what to expect with this, but it was delightful and felt like a warm hug. I wish the short stories in this collection had a bit more to them though.  The first couple of the stories were by far the best, but the later ones weren't quite as strong in comparison.  Overall, I'd say the energy and cozy style of this story makes it work.  I think I'll have to check out the sequel in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Did you take part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
