Reindeer Readathon 2025 - Wrap Up & Mini Reviews

Happy Wednesday (and New Year's Eve) everyone!  Today I'm sharing my wrap up and mini reviews for the Reindeer Readathon which ran all of December.  It was hosted by Erik @ Breakeven Books with Christine & MoKristinHannahVanessaTinaAhtiya, and Steffany.  I was on Team Snowflake this year which was hosted by Tina and Steffany.  I actually managed to complete all the books on my tbr and earned a total of 260 points  You can check out my original tbr here, if you're interested.  Without further ado, let's get to my tbr:

DASHER - 10 PTS - A book where the combined sum total of all the numbers in the page count must be greater than 12. An example would be 392 (3+9+2=14) +20 BONUS POINTS - CHRISTMAS TREE

❋ ❋ ❋
Ronan Boyle and the Bridge of Riddles (Ronan Boyle #1) by Thomas Lennon  is an MG humorous fantasy I that I had no expectations for going in.  Turns out it was a lot of fast paced fun.  I'd almost call this younger YA as well.  Also, I love the art from John Hendrix.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

DANCER - 20 PTS - A book that matches (genre, trope, theme etc.) one of the first 5 words that you find in the word search. Must be a word from the list. +20 BONUS POINTS - CHRISTMAS CAROLS

❋ ❋ ❋
Tara was one of my favorites from Buffy the Vampire Slayer so I was really looking forward to The Bewitching Hour: A Tara Prequel by Ashley Poston. It was nice to see Tara get to shine on her own. I also really liked getting to know the new characters, Baz and Daphne. It was also fun to see the references to the tv show as well.  I wouldn't mind Poston doing more tie-in novels in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

PRANCER - 25 PTS - The title has at least 7 syllables.

❋ ❋
The Grimoire Grammar School Parent Teacher Association by Caitlin Rozakis was pretty fun. I don't think I've ever read a magic school book from the point of view of the parents before. I wouldn't mind more in the future.  My favorite element was the email (or otherwise) update for the parents from the school.  I just wish there was a bit more plot to this story though.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

VIXEN - 15 PTS - The author has an initial in their name. +15 BONUS POINTS - CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
I wish I had seen familiar with a few more of the figures featured in Flamboyants: The Queer Harlem Renaissance I Wish I'd Known by George M. Johnson, but at least now I know more and can look up more information about them if I like. Going into this, I didn't realize that it was quite going to be a collection of essays on them. It's a short read but it's worth checking out. Also, the art is excellent.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

COMET - 10 PTS - Based on your astrology sign, read a book where one of the 3 listed colors is the main color on the cover. Cancer, Leo, Virgo: white, orange, or brown. +15 BONUS POINTS - CHRISTMAS ELF

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
The Bands of Morning (Mistborn #6) by Brandon Sanderson is another outstanding installment of what has been a brilliant series.  I don't know what more I can say to express just how much I love it and I don't know why I put this series off for so long. I can't wait to read more from Sanderson.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

CUPID - 15 PTS - Choice your pairing: Physical book: Translated book.

Hex book cover

❋ ❋

Hex (Robert Grim #1) by Thomas Olde Heuvelt is very atmospheric. The creepiness factor is probably the best part of the book, but I wasn't a fan of any of the characters at all. Also, I wish the setting wasn't changed to the U.S. for this translation.  That just seemed like an odd choice.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

DONNER - 20 PTS - Book cover must have something from the title on it.

❋ ❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Greenteeth by Molly O'Neill is a new favorite for me. I wasn't at all familiar with this piece of British folklore, but I became invested in this historical fantasy really quickly. I loved that Jenny, a monster (who is a lot more than meets the eye), is our perspective character in this story. I really enjoyed getting to know everyone else as well, and that their world is practically a character itself. I also wasn't expecting the Arthurian elements, but that was a highlight of the novel for me. I can't wait to read whatever Molly O'Neill writes next!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

BLITZEN - 15 PTS - Choose 3 books at least 5 years old. Randomly select one of them.

❋ ❋
A Rope - In Case (The Second Hebridean Trilogy #1) by Lillian Beckwith wasn't terribly memorable for me.  That said, it did make me want to visit the island.  Maybe someday!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

RUDOLPH - 10 PTS - No eyes on the cover.

I picked up The 13th Hour (Nick Quinn Thrillers #1) by Richard Doetsch on a whim from a thrift shop because I thought it sounded like it had potential. Turns out it was all wasted. At a minimum, I can say that I wished the cast didn't feel like flat stock characters. Anyway, the thing that's supposed to make this stand out is the fact that it's told in reverse. Weirdly, what stood out to me was the Ford Focus that popped up if only because I used to drive one ages and ages ago. Around the time this book came out, maybe a few years later, I noticed that the Taurus would often get shot up or damaged one way or another in action scenes in movies and tv shows - and it does here too so that's a first for me in print!

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

SLEIGHING IT - 50 PTS - If you have completed all of your prompts and the Christmas bonus prompts (Star, Lights, Carols, Tree, Elf), you can redo one prompt of your choice for extra points.

❋ ❋ ❋
Graveyard Shift by Michael F. Haspil was pretty great for a book I picked up on a whim from a thrift store.  It's a bit messy to get started but I got a kick out of the urban fantasy police procedural combination. I'm going to have to look up what else this author has written since I believe this is his first release.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Did you take part in this year's Reindeer Readathon?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
