Happy Thursday everyone! Today I'm sharing my second update for my February progress for the year long Beat The Backlist 2026 reading challenge, hosted by Austine Decker. You can see my original tbr here. In February, I completed 3 books for a total of 6 read so far out of 24 total books on my tbr. Not bad so far! Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the books I read in February:
5. anthology of shorts: collection of short stories and/or poetry
❋ ❋ ❋
Small Horrors: A Collection of Fifty Creepy Stories by Darcy Coates is fine, but none of them particularly stood out from the next or had me wanting more. As a fan of the author, I'm glad I decided to try this. but honestly I could take it or leave it. I would have preferred less stories with more focus on those stories. My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
10. classics past or present: classic novel or retelling of a classic
❋ ❋ ❋
Don't Look Now and Other Stories by Daphne du Maurier is a collection of a few stores from a favorite classic author that I wasn't at all familiar with before picking it up at a thrift store a couple of months ago. The title story, "Don't Look Now," was the best story in this collection for me. The rest were a little boring and a bit too bland to stand out. That said, if you're interested in the author you may want to try this collection. My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
1. 10, 10, 10s across the board: title has 10+ words
❋ ❋ ❋
A Quiet Company of Dangerous Men: The Forgotten British Special Operations Soldiers of World War II by Shannon Monaghan is a work of nonfiction that's well worth picking up if you're interested in lesser known figures involved in the war. I wasn't really familiar with any of those featured here so I learned quite a bit in that regard. That said, I'd say that the scope is too broad for what the author is trying to accomplish. I would have preferred it overall if it were more focused on a tighter group or story rather than trying to do as much as it does.My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
Are you participating in this challenge? Have you read these books? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
