Beat The Backlist 2025 - March Update

Happy Thursday everyone!  Today I'm sharing my third update for my March progress on the year long Beat The Backlist 2025 reading challenge, hosted by Austine Decker.  You can see my original tbr here.  In March, I completed 5 books for a total of 14 read so far out of 24 total books on my tbr.  Without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the books I read in March:

 ❋
Realm of Ash (The Books of Ambha #2) by Tasha Suri is a great companion fantasy novel.  I love the world of this series - it's so richly written that it's practically a character itself. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋
I'm not going in the right order for these, but I still had a lot of fun with The Doctor and the Kid (Weird West Tales #2) by Mike Resnick. I love seeing how all of these real life figures fit into this steampunk tale. I appreciate that the author includes a short biography of them as well.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋
Funny Story by Emily Henry isn't at all a go to genre read for me, but I liked it more than I expected to. Honestly, the characters of Daphne and Miles made it work it out so well for me. Do I wish it would have ended differently? Yes. Do I wish it would have become a comedic revenge thriller featuring two newly minted allies turned best friends? Yes. Can you blame me for wishing this? No, I'd say that was a pretty reasonable one.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋
A Royal Passion: The Turbulent Marriage of Charles I of England and Henrietta Maria of France by Katie Whitaker is a readable history that makes the relationship between Charles and Henrietta accessible. That said there were some political and relationship elements that I wish got barely more than a mention. Then again, some of those elements wouldn't quite fit the overall tone of her book.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋
It's been ages since I've read Stay Out of the Basement (Goosebumps #2) by R.L. Stine, so I don't remember some of the little details but I remembered how creepy it was. Since season two of the new tv series on Disney+ featured this as one of the central stories it draws from, I thought I'd give this a reread. I'd forgotten the level of body horror of the book, and that cliffhanger. What a way to end it! It was a lot of fun to return to this one and see how it was adapted into the season two storyline. I think I'll have to look up the episode based on this story from the original tv series. I can't really remember if I've seen that one or not, but I'm sure it'll be creepy too!

My review is on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Are you participating in this challenge?  Have you read these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I have yet to read an Emily Henry book (probably because it isn't my go to genre either). But I would like to try one someday😁
