summer of horror 2026 logo

Happy Sunday Funday and welcome to my sixth weekly update for Summer of Horror 2026 (my second of July), a celebration of all things horror running from June through August and hosted by Tammy @ Books, Bones & Buffy.  I made some more progress on my tbr and watchlist!  This summer seems to be flying by!  Keep reading to see what I've gotten up to since last week.

My Summer of Horror This Week:

What I've Watched This Week:

❋ ❋
NOS4A2 (Season 1) - Netflix - I've watched 2 more episodes of this show this week and I'm really it's definitely picking up.  I'm glad I decided to stick with it.

Episode 5: Best episode of the series so far. Zachary Quinto is doing a great job with his role!

My review is also on Serializd.

Episode 6: This was another solid episode. I loved getting to know more about Jolene and her abilities.  As the show has gone on though I'm really starting to wonder where it's going for season 2.

My review is also on Serializd.

❋.5
I'd heard Evil Dead Burn was brutal, and they weren't kidding. Holy crap! This was unrelenting and tough to watch. Definitely should have rated H for Horrific! Anyway, is it odd that for a good chunk of the movie thinking, "Tyler's really been put through it the last few years!"

My review is also on Letterboxd.

What I Read This Week:

With Desert Creatures by Kay Chronister, I think I was hoping for something more like a horror take on Fallout than this. The summary sounded great and it certainly had its moments here and there, but otherwise I preferred the idea of the story to what we got.  My favorite thing about this was the setting and the atmosphere.  I wouldn't mind trying more from this author in the future though since there was quite a bit of potential.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

❋
Smoke and Shadows (Smoke Trilogy #1) Tanya Huff is a fun spinoff series opener. Henry was a great character in the Vicki Nelson books and it's just as fun to follow him further with Tony.  I had a lot of fun with the fact that Tony is working on a vampire tv show.  I'm looking forward to checking out the rest of the trilogy.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

What I'm Reading Now:

House of Secrets (House of Shadows #2) by Darcy Coates - This author is a favorite so second half of a duology is going to be good.  I'll be reading this for my r/Fantasy 2026 Book Bingo Challenge.

Are you participating in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books or watched these movies and shows?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
