The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware - Review

❋ ❋ ❋

Lo, a travel magazine writer, has just received a top assignment - a week on the maiden voyage of a small luxury cruise liner. At first everything seems great with beautiful cabins, delicious dinner parties, and intriguing guests, but things quickly take a dark turn. She witnesses what can only be the woman in cabin ten, the cabin next door to hers, getting attacked and thrown overboard. However, all of the guests appear to be present and accounted for and the ship continues sailing as if nothing at all happened. Lo knows what she saw and she knows that something terrible is going on.

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware is an absolute must-read mystery thriller. The pacing is excellent, and it has plenty of twists and turns to keep me hooked. The novel is called a read alike for fans of The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins and I'm going to say that it definitely fits the bill there. If you're a fan of one, you'll most likely be a fan of the other. This novel is very tightly plotted and quite claustrophobic, especially when you consider the break-in at Lo's apartment just before she sets off on her newest assignment and the ship itself, which is a much more of a large luxury yacht rather than a Carnival Cruise ship. Admittedly, Lo is a bit difficult to like, but she is certainly a fascinating character to follow. Also, I just want to say that Lo doesn't reach the same level of unreliable as Rachel.

Regardless, I was enthralled for the entire ride. I want to say more, but I don't want to get into spoiler territory - just do yourself a favor and read The Woman in Cabin 10 for yourself! I'll have to try Ruth Ware's debut novel, In a Dark, Dark Wood, soon!

I read this novel from August 20 - 30, 2016 and my review is also on Goodreads.

  3. Oh I liked this one! I just thought it was so atmospheric with the ship and the ending. And I agree about Lo- there was a point where I thought is it going there?? ha ha about the unreliable part- I have to be careful here not to spoil- so I'll just say it had me guessing once or twice. :)
