Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge 2025 - February Update: A Taste For Love & The Mythmakers

Happy Sunday everyone!  I hope everyone's been doing well this month.  We're now about halfway through February and I've completed 4 total tasks for Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge.  The two tasks I completed in February required me to read a romance book that doesn’t have an illustrated cover and a staff pick from my local indie bookstore.  I selected A Taste for Love by Jennifer Yen and The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien by John Hendrix respectively.  Read on to see my mini reviews and my plans for next month:

 ❋

A Taste for Love by Jennifer Yen is a solid YA contemporary romance and classic literature retelling. Since I knew going in that this was a Pride and Prejudice retelling, I knew James was going to be the Darcy character, but this took too long to pick up for me. The contest starts maybe halfway into the story and it takes awhile to get going even if it does a decent job of introducing us to Eliza. Honestly, I wasn't particularly interested in getting to know James - Eliza was pretty much the only character I really cared for. I did like all the talk of baking though - it definitely succeeded in making me hungry.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋ ❋

The Mythmakers: The Remarkable Fellowship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien by John Hendrix is easily one of my new favorite biographies and graphic novels.  Honestly, I can't recommend it enough if you're at all interested in C.S. Lewis or J.R.R. Tolkien.  This was just perfect and the graphic novel style really suited it.  I actually felt choked up as I got to the ending.  I'm going to have to read more from John Hendrix in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Next Up For March:

Read a wordless comic.

My choice: Here by Richard McGuire - I saw the movie adaptation which was pretty ambitious and a decent slice of life across different time periods.  I'd like to see what the original story looks like.

Pick a 2015 Read Harder Challenge task to complete.

My choice: Night Life (Nocturne City #1) by Caitlin Kittredge - The 2015 task I've selected is to read a book written by someone when they were under the age of 25.  This urban fantasy sounds series opener sounds like it has potential.

Are you taking part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
