Trope-ical Readathon - Team Fantasy - March 2025 Round - Announcement & TBR

team fantasy tropeical

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today I'm sharing my plans for the March 2025 round of the Trope-ical Readathon which is hosted by Jenjenreviews.  It will run the entire month of March and I'm joining Team Fantasy this time around.  You can follow along on BlueSky and Discord, if you like.

As usual, there are fifteen total challenges to complete - two team challenges and thirteen common challenges (you either read a book that fits the given trope or one that fits the alternate prompt).  Each team also has two choices (a newer or an older book) for your Team Book read as well.  For each challenge you complete, team book you read, and each page you read, you earn points for your team,  Common Challenge books are worth 50 points each, Team Challenge books are worth 100 points each, Team Books are worth 150 points each, and on top of that you get 1 point per page you read for the readathon so you can really rack them up over the course of the month.  Without further ado, let's get to my tbr:

Team Book:

My choice: This Woven Kingdom (This Woven Kingdom #1) by Tahereh Mafi - I'm picking the older option of the two for this category.  I haven't always had the best of luck with this author, but this series opener does sound like it has a lot of potential.

Team Challenges:

1. There Be Dragons! Read a book with dragons.

My choice: Phoenix Extravagant by Yoon Ha Lee - This fantasy novel sounds like it could be pretty cool.  Plus, I'm reading this for my Beat The Backlist 2025.

2. The Woods: Read a book where woods or forest plays a key part.

My choice: The Will and the Wilds by Charlie N. Holmberg - This standalone YA fantasy sounds like it might be right up my alley.

Common Challenges:

1. Absent/ Dead Parent(s) or *A Book With More Than One Author*

My choice: Ghosts: The Button House Archives by Matthew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond - I loved this show so much and I'm really looking forward to reading this.  It's cool that it's written by the creators of the show!

2. *Time Loop* or Reread A Book

My choice: How to Become the Dark Lord amd Die Trying (Dark Lord Davi #1) by Django Wexler - This sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun to me.

3. *Blast From The Past* or Published Before 2000

My choice: Barry Lyndon by William Makepeace Thackary - Honestly, this could fit either category.  I watched the 1975 movie adaptation not too long ago and absolutely loved it.  I'm really looking forward to reading this classic.

4. New Kid In Town or *A Genre You Don't Usually Read*

My choice: Totality: The Great North American Eclipse of 2024 by Mark Littmann and Fred Espenak - I spotted this at Goodwill and had to get it.  I had the opportunity to experience totality during that eclipse and it was stunning to say the least.

5. *Recent Loss* or A Buddy Read With Someone Else

My choice: First Born by Will Dean - I really enjoyed The Last One, so I'm really looking forward to another psychological thriller from this author.  By the way, this fits the recent loss category because the main character's sister has died.

6. Multiple POV or *Multiple POC Characters*

My choice: Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam - I don't know how I've missed this up until now.

7. Mixed Media or *An Audiobook Or Ebook*

My choice: The Never Game (Colter Shaw #1) by Jeffrey Deaver - I like the tv series that this book series inspired so I'm looking forward to seeing how the source material compares.

8. All Happens In One Day or *Read A Book In One Day*

My choice: The Silent Gondoliers by William Goldman - This is pretty short, so I think I'll be able to do it in a day.

9. Found Family or *A Book In A Series

My choice: Wildwood (Wildwood Chronicles #1) by Colin Meloy - This Middle Grade Fantasy sounds like it will be right up my alley.

10. Coming-Of-Age or *A Protagonist That's Your Age*

My choice: His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire #1) by Naomi Novik - I've heard a lot of great things about this and the main protagonist is in their 30s like me.

11. Dark Academia or Read *A Borrowed Book*

My choice: Le Divorce by Diane Johnson - One of my friends gave to me to read.  It's not my usual genre at all, but I do like Paris so I thought I'd give it a try.

12. Food Themed or *A "Meaty" Book (At Least 500 Pages)*

My choice: Scourge (Darkhurst #1) by Gail Z. Martin - This fantasy horror has been sitting on my shelf for far too long.

13. Historical Figure or *A Book Written In 2025

My choice: Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito - This 2025 horror story sounds like it could be right up my alley.

Are you taking part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!
