Happy Friday everyone! Today, I'm sharing my second update and mini reviews for the Read Around the World Challenge. Of the 46 books for the 46 European countries on my original tbr, I managed to complete 5 in February for a total of 8 completed so far. You can check out my profile here on the challenge website here. Keep reading to see my thoughts on the books I read this month:
❋ ❋ ❋
Snowblind (Dark Iceland #1) by Ragnar Jonasson is fine, but it took me a bit to get into this mystery and I don't think I was as invested as I should have been. I don't have much to say about this one, but I won't be reading the rest of the series. I'm just not interested enough.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad #2) by Tana French was a big step up from the first book in the series for me. I'm glad I didn't write the rest of this series off. The characters and setting really make this one work for me. Now I'll have to continue the series.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon had been on my tbr for ages and it had been recommended to me so many times. I'm glad I finally decided to read it even if I should have read it years ago. Why did I put this off for so long?
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph, and also on my Beat the Backlist 2025 - February Update.
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
Adventurous or reckless? Either way, Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl is an epic journey! I particularly appreciated getting to see the photos they took along the way. That aspect really helped bring the whole thing home for me.
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
❋ ❋ ❋ ❋
A Hero of Our Time by Mikhail Lermontov is a classic that wasn't on my radar at all until I decided to read it for my Read the World Challenge: Europe. I'm glad I decided to take a chance on it because I really ended up enjoying this work of classic Russian literature. Reading this through a modern lens is one thing, but I wonder what it would have been like to read about the Byronic figure at the center of this story back when it was new. Quite scandalous, I expect!
My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.
Have you read any of these books? Are you participated in this challenge? As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
I loved The Shadow of the Wind, and I've always wanted to read Tana French😁
ReplyDeleteI'd definitely like to know what you think if you decide to try her work.
