The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy #1) by Stephen King + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader, and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books. For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs.

Happy Friday everyone!  This week I'm spotlighting one of my current reads, Mr. Mercedes (Bill Hodges Trilogy #1) by Stephen King, which is one of my 2020 Popsugar Reading Challenge books.  I don't know why I've been putting this off for so long, but I'm happy to finally see what all the fuss is about!

Beginning:

April 9-10, 2009

Augie Odenkirk had a 1997 Datsun that sill ran well in spite of high mileage, but gas was expensive, especially for a man with no job, and City Center was on the far side of town, so he decided to take the last bus of the night.

56:

"She thought she was telling it.  You know that as well as I do.  She talked herself into it so completely she could have passed a lie-detector test."

50/50 Friday: Favorite/ Least Favorite Paranormal of 2019

Favorite - Summoned to Thirteenth Grave (Charley Davidson #13) by Darynda Jones - This series was so much fun and addicting.  My fingers are crossed that there will be a spin off series one of these days.

Least favorite - The Babysitters Coven (The Babysitters Coven #1) by Kate Williams - Buff the Vampire Slayer meets Adventures in Babysitting is a tall order, and it just never quite got there for me.

What are you reading this weekend?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  5. I'm still so disappointed you didn't like The Babysitters Coven. I was hoping it would be better. Darynda Jones' book does sound good and is one I would like to read too. I hope you continue to enjoy Mr. Mercedes. Stephen Kind is such a great storyteller. Have a great weekend!

  12. I've never read a SK book because I don't read horror books. But Mr. Mercedes isn't horror, and it won the Edgar award for best mystery (and I'm trying to read all those), so I have a hold on the audiobook from my library. Some day the hold will come through and I will read it with my ears. Like you, I want to know what the fuss is about.

    1. It lives up to it. Another one of his that isn't horror is The Eyes of the Dragon - it's more fantasy. :)

  15. Not a big Stephen King fan, as I'm not a big horror fan, but those snippets got my attention. I could give this one a try.

  16. Ouuuu I am also participating in the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge and I didn't even think I could read a Stephen King book for the prompt more that 20+ books published!

I've been interested to read this one/series as I noticed some cross-over in characters in this book with his book The Outsider.

    I hope you enjoy it!
