The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Web (The Survivalist #5) by Jerry Ahern

On Friday's I take part in two weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by Freda's Voice, and Book Beginnings, hosted by Rose City Reader.  For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

Happy Friday (the 13th!) everyone! This week I'm spotlighting one of my The Web (The Survivalist #5) by Jerry Ahern.  Like I've said before about the previous installments of this post-apocalyptic survival thriller reminds me of an early Chuck Norris movie.  And, they're probably about the most manly books I've ever read.  We'll see how this one goes!

Beginning:

John Rourke stood in the rain.  He'd landed the Beechcraft because the plane had been almost out of fuel.  As best he'd been able to judge from the maps, the plane was about twenty-five miles from Chambers and U.S. II headquarters.

56:

"Paul!"  It was the first time he'd turned his face toward her in more than an hour.  His eyebrows were crusted over with ice, his face red and raw to the point of bleeding on his cheeks.  She suddenly realized that while his body had shielded  hers from the wind, his face had had nothing to protect it.

Have you read this book?  Are you taking part in this readathon?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I have not read this book, but it has a great start!

  2. Haven't heard of it but it sounds a bit like the Jack Reacher series - a big guy who protects others but also it reads like one big action movie. Enjoy.
