Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge 2025 - October Update: The Fisherman & Digging Up Devils

Happy Saturday everyone!  It's still pretty early in the month, but I managed to get this month's tasks completed right away.  I've now completed 20 total tasks for Book Riot's 2025 Read Harder Challenge.  I completed two tasks for October which required me to read a work of weird horror and a book about a moral panic and I selected The Fisherman by John Langan and Digging Up Devils: The Search For A Satanic Murder Cult in Rural Ohio by Jack Legg,  Read on to see my mini review and my plans for next month:

 ❋

The Fisherman by John Langan takes a little bit to get going but once it did I was hooked.  My favorite aspect of this novel is the style of how it's told and the thick atmosphere.  I haven't read a book featuring so much fishing in quite awhile! Anyway. it makes me want to know what the audiobook production would sound like since in print it very much reads like someone is directly telling you a horror story.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

 ❋

Digging Up Devils: The Search For A Satanic Murder Cult in Rural Ohio by Jack Legg is a well researched work of nonfiction about the Toledo Cult Investigation of 1985.  It's insane (and almost funny) to think that something like this could happen, but then again with the insanity that's been going on in this country I don't know why I'm surprised.  It'll probably make a strong comeback.

My review is also on Goodreads and The StoryGraph.

Next Up For November:

Reread a childhood favorite book.

My choice: Frog and Toad Are Friends (Frog and Toad #1) by Arnold Lobel - You can't go wrong with Frog and Toad.

Read a book about little-known history.

My choice: The Queens of Animation: The Untold Story of the Women Who Transformed the World of Disney and Made Cinematic History by Nathalia Holt - This has been recommended to me several times and it sounds like it will be a fascinating read.  Plus, this author also wrote Rise of the Rocket Girls which was pretty great.

Are you taking part in this challenge?  Have you read any of these books?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
