The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): Call Down the Hawk (The Dreamer Trilogy #1) by Maggie Stiefvater + 50/50 Friday

On Friday's I take part in three weekly link ups - The Friday 56, hosted by  Freda's Voice , Book Beginnings, hosted by  Rose City Reader , and 50/50 Friday is a new weekly link up and it is hosted by  Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader  and  Laura @ Blue Eye Books . For The Friday 56, you choose a book, a book you have just finished, a book you are about to start, your current read, and share a line or a few lines that grab you (but don't spoil anything) from page 56 or 56% of the way through the ebook. Post it and share your post's url on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post. As for Book Beginnings, you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires, and then link up your post's url with Rose City Reader. Then, for 50/50 Friday, every week there's a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - you share a book that suits each category and link up on the hosts blogs. Happy Friday everyone!...

Top Ten Tuesday: Book Adaptations I Would Love To See

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Welcome to the Top Ten Tuesday now hosted by  That Artsy Reader Girl .  This week's topic is Most Anticipated Book Releases for the First Half of 2020, but since I just recently shared my winter tbr featuring upcoming releases I'm doing something completely different.  I'm going to share books that I've read recently that I would love to see adapted into a movie or tv series.  Here we go, in alphabetical order by title: An Assassins Guide to Love and Treason by Virginia Boecker  - This was exactly the kind of historical fiction I love.  It's perfect for fans of Mackenzi Lee and A Knight's Tale .  It would be so much fun to see a film adaptation of this standalone. The Girl With Ghost Eyes  ( The Daoshi Chronicles  #1) by M.H. Boroson  - This series is essentially  Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Supernatural , Spirited Away , and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon , so I have a feeling yo...

Happy Monday and welcome to the first Monday of 2020!  This week I'm spotlighting a couple of my favorite songs from the first season of Netflix's The Witcher (2019).  I finished the season just after Christmas and it was a pretty great series.  I didn't really know much about it aside from the trailers from Netflix, but it looked reall...

Mini ARC Reviews - Blood Countess, The God Game, Scavenge the Stars, & The Vanished Birds

Today I'm sharing four mini ARC reviews with you:  Blood Countess by Lana Popovic  (available January 28, 2020),  The God Game by Danny Tobey  (available January 7, 2020),  Scavenge the Stars ( Scavenge the Stars #1) by Tara Sim  (available January 7, 2020), and  The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez  (available January14, 2020).  I received all of these ARCs from NetGalley in exchange for honest reviews.  Read on to see my thoughts on them: ❋   ❋  ❋ Blood Countess by Lana Popovic is a YA horror novel about Elizabeth Bathory, aka history's Blood Countess. Honestly, that's entirely what sold me. I was really into the first perhaps fifty percent of the novel, especially as we meet and follow Anna's journey - and yes, she does some awful things to get what she wants. The second half though became quite boring. I suppose I was expecting more in terms of horror, blood, and guts than we ended up getting considering that...

Sunday Funday: Beat The Backlist 2019 - Wrap Up & Mini Reviews

Happy Sunday everyone!  Last year I participated in  Novel Knight's Beat The Backlist 2019 challenge  which was all about reading backlist books (so published in 2018 or earlier).  I completed all 36 books on my tbr  (all of which were published before 1999) and you can see my earlier update here .  So far I've read 8 of the 36 on my tbr.  Keep reading to see my thoughts on the books I've read since my first (and unfortunately only previous update from April).  Here we go in the order I completed them: ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋ That was cool. Why did I sit on this novel for so long? I need to read more of Meyer's Sherlock Holmes! I read  The Seven-Per-Cent Solution  by Nicholas Meyer  from April 10 - 18, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads . ❋  ❋  ❋  ❋   ❋ The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes by Adrian Conan Doyle and John Dickson Carr is collection of Holmesian short stories tha...
