Sci-Fi Month 2019 - 5 Stunning Debuts

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today, in honor of Sci-Fi Month 2019 (Image credit: Photo by Sebastien Decoret on 123RF.com with a quote from This Is How You Lose The Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone), I am taking part in the prompt challenge and am sharing recent favorite debut novels, especially ones that I don't feel like I talk about nearly enough.  Here we go, in alphabetical order by title:

The Chosen (Arcane Kingdom Online #1) by Jakob Tanner - I've just recently started reading LitRPG and this series has really hooked me.  In real life, Clay is dying of  a disease and he undergoes a tricky procedure to have his consciousness uploaded into a Lord of the Rings-esque fantasy RPG game to survive.  Unfortunately, due to a glitch in the system he's going to have to do everything he can to not die and stay dead for real.  If you liked Aaru by David Meredith, I have a feeling you'll enjoy this too.

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North - This time travel thriller is pretty much perfect - think Kate Atkinson's Life After Life as told by Neil Gaiman multiplied by Groundhog Day on an IV of Red Bull.  If that doesn't make you want to pick it up, I don't know what will.  Plus, Peter Kenny's narration is fantastic as well.

Here and Now and Then by Mike Chen - This time travel novel is a total gem.  It's a total roller coaster and Kin, the ex-Temporal Correction Bureau special agent who's been stuck for the last 18 years after a mission to the 1990s went south, is one of the most relatable I've had the chance to meet.  I'm dying for the sequel.

Mirage (Mirage #1) by Somaiya Daud - Daud's world-building in Mirage is absolutely fantastic and lush.  I enjoyed getting to know Amani.  Plus, the whole body double and espionage stuff was really cool as well.  I'm really looking forward to the upcoming sequel.

Timekeeper (Timekeeper #1) by Tara Sim - I'm always ready for a steampunk alternate Victorian London with beautiful world-building.  Yes, this one is a bit more of what I would consider fantasy, but I couldn't resist mentioning it since one of the characters is basically time personified.  I highly recommend picking this up, especially the audiobook which is narrated by Gary Furlong.

What are some of your recent favorite sci-fi debut novels?  Have you read any of these?  Are you taking part in Sci-Fi Month this year?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
