PopCulture Mini-Thon - Announcement & TBR

Happy Saturday day everyone!  Later this month I'm going to be taking part in the first PopCulture Readathon mini-thon, created and hosted by Whitney @ bookswhitme (with some assistance from Lorryn @ Reading Parental).  It runs from September 20th-26th and this time it's themed around The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.  By the way, don't forget to follow the fun over on Twitter, and tag your posts with #popcreadathon and #minipopreads.  You can see my wrap up of the first full month length PopCulture Readathon from July here.  Keep reading to see the books I hope to tackle for these four prompts:

Original Aunt Viv: HBIC Character

My choice: Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu - This sounds like a good read alike for The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis which was one of my favorites.

Carlton Banks: Boarding/ Prep School Setting

My choice: A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle #1) by Libba Bray - I've loved everything I've already read from Bray from The Diviners and Going Bovine to Beauty Queens, so it's time I jump into one of her older series.

Ashley Banks: Fun YA Read Starring A Black Girl

My choice: A Dream So Dark (The Nightmare-Verse #2) by L.L. McKinney - I'll admit that I wasn't all that thrilled by the first book in this series, but the concept and reviews of the sequel make me want to give book two a shot.

The Fresh Prince: 2020 Release

My choice: Cries From the Lost Island by Kathleen O'Neal Gear - This totally gives me The Mummy meets Indiana Jones vibes so I have high hopes for this one!

Have you read any of these books?  Are you taking part in this mini readathon?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  2. I read the first two and thought they were great. I think I connected with the Riot Grrrl thing in Moxie. Enjoy!
