Top Ten Tuesday: YA Historical Fiction That Should Be Taught In History Or English Class

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.  This week's topic is a school freebie and I've decided to feature YA Historical Fiction That Should Be Taught In History Or English Class (if they aren't already). Here we go in alphabetical order by title:

Among the Red Stars by Gwen C. Katz

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Code Name Verity (Code Name Verity #1) by Elizabeth Wein

The Downstairs Girl by Stacey Lee

Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith

Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse

Grenade by Alan Gratz

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

Mare's War by Tanita S. Davis

Have you read any of these books?  What books are on your list this week?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  1. I have not read any of these book, but I like this topic and list today. I love the diversity in your list and that's so critical for kids in school to be reading

  2. This is an excellent option. I used to make lists of books I thought would make good choices for subject classes. Few teachers took me up on the offer. But I stayed hopeful. My TTT School Freebie list

  3. You might be happy to hear that the first time I read The Book Thief was for class! It was just another required reading book for me when I was 13-14 years old and I loved it!

  4. Some good choices here! My kids definitely got better choices than I did - books like The Hunger Games and Ready Player One. Made me jealous. LOL

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  5. I feel like my friend's daughter read The Book Thief in school. Maybe it was one she picked for a project or something. Another good one for your list would be Salt to the Sea.

  7. I would definitely have enjoyed reading The Book Thief or Code Name Verity for school more than the books I actually had to read!
