Book Riot's Read Harder Challenge 2024 - December Update: Norwegian Wood & The Cost of Free Land

Happy Saturday everyone!  I hope everyone's been doing well.  I can't believe it's already almost Christmas!  I've now completed all 24 tasks for Book Riot's 2024 Read Harder Challenge.  The two tasks I completed in December required me to read a book in translation from a country you’ve never visited and a book recommended by a librarian.  I selected Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami and The Cost of Free Land: Jews, Lakota, and an American Inheritance by Rebecca Clarren respectively.  Read on to see my mini reviews:

 ❋

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami is a classic novel that somehow I'd missed.  I'd say it wasn't quite for me though.  The best way I can describe it is that I love the style but did not like the characters at all.  I was put off by pretty much all of them enough so that it color my view of the story.

My review is also on Goodreads

 ❋  ❋

Stop whatever you're doing and go read The Cost of Free Land: Jews, Lakota, and an American Inheritance by Rebecca Clarren right now.  I don't read a whole lot of nonfiction, but you can't skip this important and just as timely piece.  It is not an easy read, but it should be required reading.  I will have to read anything that Rebecca Clarren cares to write in the future.

My review is also on Goodreads.

Did you participate in this challenge?  Have you read either of these books?  I hope to be back for the 2025 challenge, so keep your eyes out for a future tbr post for it.  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!
