Bookforager's Picture Prompt Book Bingo 2026 - January Update

Happy Thursday everyone!  Today, I'm sharing my January update for Bookforager's Picture Prompt Book Bingo 2026.  I'm actually shocked I was able to get to 1 of the 16 books on my list so soon - and I'm quite surprised as to which one I was able to pick up first.  Anyway, without further ado, keep reading to see my thoughts on the book I read this month for this challenge:

10. A large, old key

The Housemaid (The Housemaid #1) by Freida McFadden is a thriller I was originally planning to read on audiobook before I saw movie adaptation, but that never ended up happening since I was still 150 down the audiobook waitlist at that time. I ended up caving after months of waiting for the audiobook and decided to read the large print copy my mom had borrowed from the library (she had to wait awhile for the large print as well).  This might actually be the first large print book I've ever read.  Anyway, this thriller was a lot of fun and I 100% had the movie in the back of my mind the entire time I was reading it.  The movie actually follows it pretty well, so that was cool.  For the most part, I can appreciate that the changes worked for the different medium.  Regardless, I was totally hooked while I was reading this story.  While I don't quite understand the hype surrounding the author's writing style (this is my third novel from McFadden), I still had a fun time diving into it.  Plus, my mom and I got to talk about the book.  Now she's going to have to watch the movie - and I'll have to rewatch it in the future.  Now, hopefully I can get to the The Housemaid's Secret and The Housemaid is Watching before their film adaptations are released.
