Mini ARC Reviews - Darkwood, Pendulum Heroes, & The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today I'm sharing three mini reviews with you: Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch (available June 13th, 2019), Pendulum Heroes (Pendulum Heroes #1) by James Beamon (available June 6th, 2019, and The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind by Jackson Ford (available June 18th, 2019).  Thank you very much to NetGalley for providing me with ARCs of these novels in exchange for honest reviews.  Read on to see my thoughts on these books:

❋ ❋ ❋

Darkwood by Gabby Hutchinson Crouch may be perfect for you if you're looking for a funny MG fantasy adventure story. It took me a minute to get into the writing style (it's in present tense), but once you do you'll be hooked. I loved all of the fairy tale elements that the author managed to tie together so seamlessly from Hansel and Gretel, Snow, Jack and everyone. Even better is the sense of humor - it's very self aware, by the way, which completely works in its favor. I have a feeling if you're a fan of Shrek or Monty Python and the Holy Grail, you'll get a kick out of this series opener. I'm looking forward to continuing The Darkwood Series.

I read this novel on June 5, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

❋ ❋ ❋

I lucked out when I was approved for a copy of Pendulum Heroes, the first YA fantasy adventure book in a new series, by James Beamon. It's my second LitRPG novel (my first was Radioactive Evolution by Richard Hummel) and this one is a lot of fun. In this story, a group of friends playing an RPG when they get sucked into a fantasy world as their game characters and the only way they can get home is by saving their new world. The novel is very fast-paced and it's a lot of fun. If you're a fan of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, The Legend of Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle I have a feeling you'll enjoy this series opener. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more from this author in the future.

I read this novel from June 5 - 8, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

❋ ❋ ❋

I'm going to be honest with this - the title and cover for this book totally reeled me in. Luckily for me, the story behind it totally lived up to the hype I'd built up for it in my head. Anyway, the story is totally nuts but in the best ways. It's fast-paced, off-the-wall, action-packed, and a ton of fun.
Seriously, you won't get bored with Jackson Ford's debut novel (well, Ford is actually the pseudonym of a bestselling sci-fi author) because it's a real roller coaster. As for the characters, they're all pretty great but Tegan is my favorite - and yes she lives up to that title and she's still quite relatable. Sometimes the novel's trying to do a little too much, but overall I loved the superhero movie-esque spectacle of the whole thing. If you love high octane, incredibly visual stories, with an engaging cast, you'll want to read The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind by Jackson Ford. I'm looking forward to seeing more from Ford (and I hope to learn his true identity in the future).

I read this novel from June 8 - 11, 2019 and my review is also on Goodreads.

Have you read any of these books or are they on your tbr?  What are you reading now?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting below!

  1. I'm dying to find out who Ford is too, and I'm actually surprised that I haven't been able to find some kind of clue by googling, lol.
