Sunday Funday: Birthday Month Book Haul

Happy Sunday everyone!  I hope everyone's staying safe and healthy.  Today, I thought I'd share some of the new-to-me books I've recently added to my collection.  July is my birthday month after all!  Yesterday was the big day actually.  Anyway, this is what happens when I get the chance to go to a Friends of the Library book sale when they have stuff a bag full for $5 promotion going, when I go to Half Priced Books, and put those gift cards to good use.  I think I'm set for awhile!   Keep reading the check out what I've picked up this month:

To Ride Hell's Chasm by Janny Wurts - I'm not at all familiar with this author, but this standalone fantasy sounds pretty good. Plus, the cover is certainly eye catching.

Pride of Kings by Judith Tarr - This is another author I wasn't at all familiar with, but I saw a whole group of her works at the Friends of the Library book sale and thought I'd give it a try.  Her brand of historical fantasy sounds like it'll be for me.

House of War (Devil's Bargain #2) by Judith Tarr - I know this is a sequel, so I'll have to look into book one, Devil's Bargain, first.

Kingdom of the Grail by Judith Tarr - I can't resist any thing Arthurian.

Cathedral of the Sea (La Catedral del Mar #1) by Ildefonso Falcones - I found this translated historical fiction novel that set in 14th century Barcelona at Goodwill and it sounds fascinating.

The Councillor (The Councillor #1) by E.J. Beaton - I've had my eye on this series opener.  It sounds like it's going to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian - Like I said above, I can't resist an Arthurian retelling.

Six Crimson Cranes (Six Crimson Cranes #1) by Elizabeth Lim - Just based on the cover alone, I'd say this YA fantasy is going to be amazing!

The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry by C.M. Waggoner - I loved Unnatural Magic and I can't wait to give this a try!

The Pyramid: The First Wallander Cases (Kurt Wallander #9) by Henning Mankel - I've been hooked on this series for while so I was glad to find this one.  There are still a few in this series I need to pick up.

The Inscription (The MacAlpins #1) by Pam Binder - Another thing I can't resist is time travel.

Priest of Bones (War for the Rose Throne #1) by Peter McLean - I've heard a lot of great things about this fantasy series opener and I can't wait to start in on it.

Any Way the Wind Blow (Simon Snow #3) by Rainbow Rowell - This series has been delightful and I can't wait to see how it all ends.

Mister Impossible (The Dreamer Trilogy #2) by Maggie Stiefvater - This is easily one of my most highly anticipated releases of the year and I'm dying to dive right in.

Novice (Summoner #1) by Taran Matharu - I've been told that I needed to start in on this series.

Adaptation (Adaptation #1) by Malinda Lo - I've only read one book in the past by this author, and it's time I dive into more of her works.

Medalon (Hythrun Chronicles: Demon Child #1) by Jennifer Fallon - This epic fantasy series opener sounds cool.  Plus, that cover looks awesome too.

Wolfwalker (Wolfwalker #1) by Tara K. Harper - Another author I wasn't at all familiar with before, but this give me Firekeeper Saga by Jane Lindskold vibes.

Shadow Leader (Wolfwalker #2) by Tara K. Harper - The Friends of the Library book sale happened to have the sequel there too.

In the Company of Ogres by A. Lee Martinez - After reading Gil's All Fright Diner, I knew I needed more of Martinez.

King's Blood (William the Conqueror #2) by Judith Tarr - I know it's another sequel, but I thought I'd take a chance on the author.

Something From the Nightside (Nightside #1) by Simon R. Green - I've been wanting to start in on this series for ages.

The Privilege of the Sword (Riverside #2) by Ellen Kushner - I've heard that you don't need to be familiar with the previous installment to follow this.  It looks like it has a lot of potential.

The Adventure of the Deadly Dimensions (Sherlock Holmes vs. Cthulhu #1) by Lois H. Gresh - Sherlock Holmes is another character I have a hard time saying no too.

Shroud of Sorrow (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #52) by Tommy Donbavand - I don't think I've ever read a Doctor Who cross over novel featuring Clara before.

The Silent Stars Go By (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #S2) by Dan Abnett - The Doctor, Amy, and Rory with the Ice Warriors?  Sounds good to me!

Beautiful Chaos (Doctor Who: New Series Adventures #29) by Gary Russell - The Tenth Doctor and Donna are some of my favorites from this series and I can't wait to read one of their stories.  Plus, we even get to see Wilf!

The Soul Slayer by Paul Doherty - I'm going to be honest, the cover reeled me right in on this one.  Elizabethan historical fantasy mystery sounds good to me.

What books have you bought this month?  Have you read any of these books?  Which one should I read first?  As always, thanks for visiting my blog and perhaps even commenting down below!

  3. Judith Tarr is a bit more on the melodramatic side, but I really liked her Kingdom of the Grail (and even her older Avaryan Rising series). To Ride Hell's Chasm is something I recently began reading -- it's rather long but it's intensely gripping. I think you'd like both authors, given what I've seen on your blog. Look forward to your thoughts on these!
