The Friday 56 (With Book Beginnings): The Circuit: Executor Rising (The Executor #1) by Rhett C. Bruno + 50/50 Friday

Welcome to The Friday 56, a weekly meme hosted by Freda's Voice.

These are the rules:
1. Grab a book, any book.
2. Turn to page 56, or 56% on your eReader.
3. Find any sentence (or a few, just don't spoil it) that grabs you.
4. Post it.
5. Add the URL to your post in the link on Freda's most recent Friday 56 post.

I'm also taking part in Book Beginnings, a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader.  The rules are pretty simple - you share the first sentence or so and your initial thoughts, impressions, or whatever else it inspires.  Don't forget to link up your post's url with Rose City Reader.

This week I'm spotlighting my third read of Sci-Fi Month, which is hosted by Rinn Reads and Over the Effing Rainbow - The Circuit: Executor Rising (The Executor #1) by Rhett C. Bruno.  I actually won this a while ago in a Goodreads giveaway, and after putting it off for I decided it was finally time to try as it's now Sci-Fi Month.  I've just started in on it so I'm not sure what to make of it yet.  Either way, it seems to have quite a bit of potential so far.

Beginning:

The android ADIM (Automated Dynamic Intelligence Mech) on his back.  His magnetized chassis held him tightly agianst the lower hull of a Class-2 Tribunary freighter.  He watched as the astral wake of the smoldering, blue Ion-engines tore across a distorted blackness.  Beyond the stars shone, seemingly locked in their position despite how fast the ship beneath him was cruising,

56:

They proceeded down the hall and stopped at a glass door.  There was a clear vestibule beyond it with a dense enviro-suit hanging from the wall.  Through there was a dark laboratory, illuminated by a bright, pulsing blue light on the far side.

This week I'm also taking part in a brand new linkup called 50/50 Friday, which is hosted by Carrie @ The Butterfly Reader and Laura @ Blue Eye Books.  Every week they'll have a new topic featuring two sides of the same coin - this week the topic is Best/ Worst book an author has published.  Since I've probably read the most of Stephen King, I'm going to select from his works.

Best:

The Shining by Stephen King - Easily one of my favorites (and even the sequel was pretty great).  It actually scared the crap out of me.  I'd say this comes out just barely on top of 11/22/63.

Worst:

Lisey's Story by Stephen King - My least favorite of all of his that I've read.  It had it's moments, but it just really seemed to drag on and I wasn't really interested in the characters.

Comments

  1. I've never read anything by Stephen King (I know, it's terrible)! The Circuit sounds interesting - I don't read a lot of Sci-Fi which is something I'd like to change since every Sci-Fi book I've read this year was great!

  3. I haven't read sci-fi in ages. And I have never been able to get into King. Seems like his book have too much filler. I'd love for you and your readers to check out my BB & 56... http://tinyurl.com/LisaKsBookReviewsSAI

  5. The 50/50 Friday is such a fun idea! I haven't read any of King's work but The Shining is definitely my favorite movie by him. Super creepy! I'm not sure your book this week is for me but I hope you're enjoying it!

The movie and the book are both excellent, but quite different from one another.

      Thanks for visiting, Katherine.
